The black velvet suit. The turtleneck. And his hair is such a nice color in this era, the red lights catch on it so nicely. People hate on this look but if I were Aziraphale it would be glasses off, peppering that forehead with kisses immediately.

I agree with your tags! It really is like that because of what nasty dynamics can be portrayed and people just don't want to read that (understandably) soooo unless you "pick a side" your fic probably won't do as well either :/

That’s definitely true! It’s very weird, because I don’t write smut, but even if I did, just based on principal... I wouldn’t tag who bottoms. I wouldn’t want to reduce my work to just that and I don’t see why I should go “hunting” for fics that serve me and my headcanons in that sense. (Even though I’m in the “they kind of share that, really” camp so maybe that’s why this is just even more confusing to me.)

If that’s a preference... fine. Tag it, ask the author, make rec lists based on that. I just don’t agree with the heteronormative stereotypes that these fics portray. They often don’t sit right with me.

If the author can pull from the characters as I know them and make them believable omegas or alphas (which seems to be where the hight of this discourse sits, no matter if it actually transpires in an omegaverse setting or not), I’ll be fine. But it’s never “soft top” Harry or “headstrong bottom” Louis in that case, is it? It’s always “big strong top takes what he wants” and “small delicate bottom flutters his eyelashes”.

I just don’t have time for hyper-masculine characterizations of Harry, who clearly is striving to blur the lines with his gender representation. And making Louis the “smol bean” self insert goes over my head. If you want to read or write self-insert fic then do it! Nobody’s stopping you! But don’t fucking start bullying people over it.

#another thing:#not sure if this goes 100% with my argument since i'm trying to get people to read fics by anybody #but if I see that dreaded b!l tag..#i'll think twice before i read #because most of the fics in that tag don't have a good vibe to them at all #and i'm so sure that there are MANY wonderful fics in that tag #but at this point it triggers my fight or flight #anyway #i had to get that out so thank you #<3 #discourse #halosboat #asks
