The following morning, the smell of Ann’s cream intoxicated even the bedroom. Mitt woke up with that smell under his nose. He smiled even before he open his eyes. And when he was fully awake, finally opened his eyes, he knew that he wouldn’t have found Ann beside him. He knew that she was probably already in the kitchen to organize their departure for California and Nick and Chloe’s birthday, the first Matt’s kids.
Mitt slid a hand through his hair, rubbed his eyes and smiled, still thinking about the smell of Ann’s cream. A few minutes later his doubts were dissolved. Ann was on the phone with Laurie, Matt’s wife, talking about the preparations for birthday. Ann occasionally wrote something on a paper and nodded, although Laurie could not see it.
Mitt stood watching the door for a while till she hang up and continued to write things on the paper which gradually began to fill up.
She looked completely absorbed in her business, when... "Will you stop staring at me?" She said, not taking her eyes off from the paper.
"Do you mind?" Mitt churches.
Ann finally took off her glasses and looked at him: "Do you want any breakfast?"
Mitt nodded.
"Prepare it. I'm not hungry and I have to go out and buy some things."
Mitt followed her with his eyes while she was wearing her jacket, grabbed keys of the car and left.
"Good morning to you too, honey."
Two days later, as expected, they were at their home in La Jolla, San Diego in Southern California.
For a few days they would all be together: Josh, Tagg and Ben with their families in their parents' house.
On the evening of their arrival day, Matt and Craig had offered to go to the movies together. Children seemed excited, but Ann had appealed to fatigue to decline the invitation. She tried to persuade Mitt to go, but he did not give up.
"Don’t worry, it is not a problem. I also need to rest. Tomorrow I have a feeling that we should work hard at Disneyland. "
Ann smiled.
"Do you want to order a pizza, while I'm going to take a bath?"
Mitt nodded.
There was not anything more wonderful than a warm bath, with lots of foam and soothing music in the background. Ann had her hair tied back, her eyes closed and the feeling that even if the end of the world had came she would have been there to enjoy what a bath could give.
Mitt climbed the stairs and smiled. Ann used to turn on the lights to create a sort of feel to follow in order to reach her. Mitt followed the path, even if he knew where she was.
When he went into the bedroom, Ann had just grabbed the usual white robe and had worn.
Mitt gently opened the bathroom door, and this time he did it quietly and silently.
He crept in and when he was close enough to Ann who had her back turned, he untied her hair and buried his face in it. "I love your hair."
Ann was not surprised by his arrival and his gesture.
Mitt moves the robe so he could kiss her bare shoulder and whispered, "Your skin is the most beautiful in the world."
Ann took a deep breath and walked away: "I'm going to get dressed, you said you need to rest. And then pizza is coming"
Mitt shook his head.
