I've been reading this really good fanfic that's called
Be Careful What You Wish For by Thunderbirdswolvesandlilacs (You should totally check them out their super awsome!)
But it's such a interesting fic, esspecially when you dive deep into what its about
Warning!!! For all Annabeth and Percabeth fans, this isn't Annabeth or Percabeth friendly! The whole fic is about criticising and having Annabeth undergo the consequences of her actions!!
Anyway, as I was saying, the story is about how Annabeth's action finally get their consequences and goes on trail for them.
I wouldn't spoil much but if your interested in it and have no issues with a lot of Annabeth bashing, then totally check it out!
Ps. I would recommend reading the comments, they're super fun and informative!! They touch a lot of interesting points in the story and offer alternatives to what Annabeth could have done, also just generally fun to read :)

To those Annabeth stans, who no doubt will find this.. Block me, if you don't want to see this.
Or hate on me. I genuinely couldn't care.
I don't think annabeth is as bad as gabe (nope, ofc not) but she is very toxic and she hurts percy alot. Her lack of character growth is genuinely frustrating to me. I think they need to breakup, and heal by themselves. Alone.
Percy is constantly being put down by her. There realtionship is toxic, and generally abusive in my POV.
Annabeth hits him all the time, which we see in the books. He actually admits to wanting to off himself after she puts down his power, in which was the ONLY reason they even survived.
She keeps him on a lead, basically. I love Leah, so this post is not at all directed towards her. It's directed towards those who are Annabeth stans, Percabeth stans or overall those who ignore the flaws in Annabeth chase.
We know that Gabe hit Percy, and we know his nickname for the child was "Brain Boy." Annabeth is shown to hit percy very often, and has the nickname "Seaweed brain" for him. The nickname is similar to Gabes one for him.
We also know that the nickname started as a insult. Percy asked Annie multiple times to change it, or to overall not call him it. In her pride, she ignores him. She states at one point, (I can't find the actual quote but It goes sm like this) that she knows he will warm up to it eventually.
Percy stopped telling her off about it because he KNEW she wouldn't listen.
Im not downplaying the trauma Percy went through, but I think annabeth makes it worse. When she judo-fliped him, she essentially risked his life.
She was NEVER informed that the Achillies Curse was gone. She knew where his heel was, and essentially risked hitting it when she judo-fliped him. He trusted her, and she risked his life because she was upset??
She makes HIM apologise to HER for being kidnapped. That's a toxic trait, as it's controlling. It's something a abusive person, or someone with abusive tendencies would do.
Yes, Percy is the strongest demigod alive. But in that scene it wouldn't of mattered. She also risked getting Camp Jupiter to literally attack her.
Annabeth was literally unhealthily obsessed with her attachments to people. To her family, her sense of belonging. Her crush on Luke as a pre-teen, which is relatively normal, (even after his death, the narrative makes it clear that Annie doesn't see her feelings as sisterly to him.) Is really weird.
She seems upset that Luke seemed to "love" her back, and immediately takes his words as him loving her back. And yet, she denies her feelings even after we find out she doesn't even consider her feelings sisterly to him!
She refuses to see her own flaws. And so the stans, so fuckin block me if you don't like anti-annabeth posts. Tell me to kms. I genuinely don't care!
Annabeth is a character I will never like.
And you CANNOT convince me otherwise, so don't even try arguing with me.
I think it's funny that the Big 3 Hasn't tried explicitly killing Annabeth because it seems whenever she's involved, a child of the Big 3 nearly (or does) die.
Thalia nearly died and was turned into a tree to protect who? Luke and Annabeth.
Who's plan was it that led to 5 Ares Kids ganging up on a single untrained camper and (if circumstances were even a little less plot Armory) could have easily killed him because one had an electric spear fighting next to a body of water? Oh that's right, it was Annabeth's.
On the quest to save who was kidnapped by a chimera and taken to bear the sky, a quest in which Bianca, a child of Hades, died on, who were they trying to save? Say it with me now, Artemis and Annabeth.
Alongside the probably countless other times where when she's involved, a child of the Big 3 seems to be in life threatening danger more than usual? I have to question why the big 3 haven't just put out a restraining order between their children and Annabeth.
I remember reading a perpollo fic on ao3 it wasn't anmabeth friendly she was trying to force him to propose annabeth bought an engagement ring with emergency money her dad gave her Athena tried to kill percy then Athena and Fredrick gave annabeth a verbal beat down and percy and Apollo go on like a riadtrip ad percy asked hazel and frank to change the lock to his apartment not in this order not sure if it's complete.
Looking for a Percy Jackson fanfic? It’s Percy/Apollo.. Think it starts with Percys birthday and he’s with Annabeth at the time but she pulls out an endgame to ring and basically tells him to propose.. She gets angry and shouts (?) when he says no so he leaves.. Then he runs into Apollo? Think I remember them finding out that Annabeth has been spying on him by an app on his phone, and at one point Athena comes because Annabeth has prayed to her and was crying, but Poseidon interfere and they all find out with Annabeth did (vaguely recall her having brought the ring by using her fathers money?)

Annabeth stans are like "well characters are allowed to have flaws >:(" — like yes, characters having flaws is great, but if they're written as flaws. If the so called flaws are never so much as acknowledged as flaws within the narrative, maybe that's not the Deep Nuanced writing you all act like it is. "She's like that because of her trauma!!!1!" Maybe, but if a character treats people like shit because of her trauma and then never recovers from said trauma, that's not satisfactory writing.
The issue is not Annabeth having flaws or being traumatized or using unhealthy coping mechanisms or whatever. The issue is said behaviours being written as inherent to her character and not even being shown as flaws or trauma response, and her never developing to heal from her trauma or overcome her flaws. Rick never tried to make Annabeth get her shit together and become a better person because fans love her as she is and it gets him money.
From a young age Percy had anxiety. The reson why it developed was because of the endless beatings and abuse(in all types) from Gabe. Due to this Percy developed a stutter. That's one of the reasons why he was constantly bullied. It got better through the years and by the time he was 16 it was practically non-existant, only reapearing when he got extremely scared that someone he trusted was going to hit him or yell at him. The Seven and co found out. It wasnt pretty. Annabeth and Percy got into an exceptionly bad fight. You couldnt really call it a fight though. It was just Annabeth yelling at Percy, screaming, calling him stupid because he couldnt hold to long of a conversation about architecture. It wasnt like he couldn't at all, it just got hard sometimes. Seven and co watched in horror as tears streamed down Percys face, he was shaking. When Annabeth told him to talk all that he could manage out was an, "I'm sorry, please don't hit me." He had to repeat the sentences a few times as of his stutter, repeating it over and over as he fell to the ground and started rocking himself. Annabeths pride got in the way, she wasnt going to go help someone she had just given out to. So she stood up, scoffed and walked away. That was the first time anyone had seen Percy so vulnerable. It wasnt the last.
I really didn't need more reasons to not ship Percabeth, but the more I think about it the more disturbing things I notice. And I relate too much to them to be okay with them. Let's go over this. [Disclaimer: this post is not supposed to be proof that Percabeth is abusive or anything, that has already been talked about. This is just some of my musings. DON'T clown and if you aren't okay with Percabeth crit scroll past. Block the anti tag. Whatever.]
Percy doesn't argue with Annabeth's wishes because it's not worth the trouble. [See the end of this post.] The only examples I can find right now are
... I gave myself a four out of five. Annabeth made a face. ‘You’re being generous.’ [...] ‘Three out of five,’ Annabeth said. I knew better than to argue, so we moved along. (TLO, Chapter 4)
And
‘So,’ she said, ‘are you going to argue about me coming along?’
‘Nah. You’d just beat me up.’ (TLO, Chapter 14)
But bear with me. He goes along what she wants because he knows she won't listen and it's easier to comply. It doesn't seem like much, but it's the worst possible way of being compromising and it's literally how you pave your way into a draining relationship. Believe me, I know.
You don't say anything because arguing is tiring and doesn't accomplish much. You go along with what they want. Maybe you even tell yourself that relationships require compromise. It doesn't occur to you that you're always the one compromising. And then, when you realise they have breached your boundaries and your autonomy is near non existent now, it's too late and there's almost no way out.
It's not a big deal on its own, just one of the subtler signs of imbalance. So yeah, that's exhibit 1. Moving on.
Like @/luke-x-percy has said here, Annabeth always acts like Percy is beneath her, on what grounds, exactly? What reason does she have of thinking she is superior?
She constantly criticizes him, beginning with 'you drool when you sleep'. (I'm too lazy to find the rest of the quotes now. Sorry.) She always finds something to criticize him on, like when he saved her and Grover from Crusty and she was like 'be faster next time' or when they were paired together in botl and Percy was excited and she said 'your armour is crooked.'
Not to mention all the times she calls him stupid. Everyone always calls him stupid until he just internalizes it. He believes he is stupid and no one ever tells him otherwise. And it's so messed up, it breaks my heart? And Annabeth actively reinforces this idea all the time.
This is also not a big deal on its own and may even be read as joking or bickering, but it's a control strategy. Chipping away at your self esteem until you think you don't deserve better than what they can give you and you don't question their treatment of you. In actual abuse language it's also a way of saying 'you're lucky to have me because no one else would want you.' And we all know Annabeth is controlling.
And when you add that to the fact that Percy's self esteem is already non existent, it's despicable that she does it. Here's the thing: Percy believes all the bad things he hears about himself because that's all he hears. He would never prioritise himself or set boundaries because he doesn't know when he deserves better. He was abused and bullied for the better part of his childhood and grew up with an absent father and Gabe of all people for a stepfather. It's safe to say his ideas of relationships are not the healthiest or the best for him.
I mean. If Percy were real I would worry for him. Like I said, his self esteem is non existent and he has no idea how healthy relationships work. And he doesn't know how to prioritise himself. He doesn't know it's an option. And that makes him very easy to be manipulated by a 'I love you so you can't complain when I treat you like shit' kind of abuser. At least he's fictional and I can just ship him with Rachel because I want good things for him.
Speaking of Rachel, I'm never going to stop quoting this because this about sums up why Perachel is healthier than Percabeth:
I can't pretend I hadn't thought about Rachel. She was so much easier to be around than ... Well, than some other girls I knew. I didn't have to work hard, or watch what I said, or wrack my brain trying to figure out what she was thinking. Rachel didn’t hide much. She let you know how she felt. (TLO, Chapter 1)
Rachel is easy to be around, unlike Annabeth ‘I will never make things easy for you’ Chase. She openly communicates with Percy. Green flags. And part of the reason I like Perachel is that Rachel is a mortal and she can give Percy normalcy, the thing he craves most.
I don't think Annabeth would ever understand Percy's need for normalcy. She literally sought out a quest and uses 'mortal' as an insult, at least with Rachel. They are too different. Like this post says (6th point), there are opposites and there are polar opposites. Percy and Annabeth work together only to an extent, but not to the extent that they would work as life partners. They butt heads too much for that.
Anyway. That’s all my incoherent thoughts for now. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
