Hi! if you dont mind, what do you use to animate? im trying to make an animation for my friend as a gift, and your style that ive seen with like the life series is what im tryna aim for thx ^ ^
That's such a cool gift and I'm really flattered, I don't mind at all!
For what I use, I have 2 main styles of animation, it's either toonsquid for the frame by frame stuff or procreate and davinci resolve for keyframing (moving transparent pngs). I'll draw everything on my ipad and then airdrop to my laptop for editing/finishing
If you have any more questions about how I animate feel free to reach out! Comments and questions make me giddy

Hello!
For your course, are there any additional courses you feel should be taken alongside what you offer in yours?
For animation/drawing, programs to be used, or to get hired?
Id love a list! I currently have a Bachelors in GameArt and would like to get into 2D animation for my career.
Thank you!
Hello!
Hmmm, I can't really think of any since I made the class with the intent of it being more of all the knowledge can be applied to any software you need. But if I had to say one probably Toniko Pantoja's videos would be a good additional since that's where I learned how to animate in the first place haha.
As for programs the following goes: Storyboarding - Toon Boom Storyboard Pro (TV), Photoshop (Feature Film)
Animation: Toon Boom Harmony (American TV), Clip Studio Paint (Japan), TVPaint (American and Japan), Adobe Flash/Animate (America and Japan)
There are professionals who use Procreate but as of right now studios haven't adapted it yet since I don't think there's a Desktop version. So they primarily use Adobe and Toon Boom programs. But recently American studios have been using Clip Studio for designs, layouts and animation slowly.
do you have any good resources for 2d animation programs? :0
YES I HAVE SOME!
(WINDOWS/MAC)
open toonz is a good AND FREE program to use, easy enough interface, I've only used it a couple times but I've had a few friends who loved using it!!
https://opentoonz.github.io/e/
(WINDOWS/MAC/LINUX)
krita is pretty much a good FREE natural-feeling program that uses frame by frame animation, some buttons were confusing to me, but through trial and error i understood more of it!
(WINDOWS/MAC/LINUX)
synfig is a FREE animation program that specializes in tween-based vector animations!! i've never tried it before, but it's something that may be interesting to experiment with if you're looking for something like that!
https://www.synfig.org/
(ANDROID/iOS)
flipaclip is probably one of the most popular, FREE animation apps for ipad/tablet users!! it's very easy to use, frame by frame animation, you can preview your animation VERY easily, etc. however, you'd have to pay to remove ads and the flipaclip watermark i believe!

(PROGRAMS THAT COST $)
CLIP STUDIO PAINT
clip studio paint is a program i've bought in 2018 and have been using it religiously for art in general, but it also offers animation features! the way in which you animate in clip studio is a cel animation format that may seem intimidating at first (i was definitely intimidated) but after following an easy to follow youtube video, it was immediately easy to understand what to use and what buttons didn't need to be fiddled with!
in my opinion, i'm content enough with having the limit to 24 frames, but it's up to you!
PRO - up to 24 frames for gifs or short animations (i have this one)
EX - UNLIMITED FRAMES!
THERE'S A SUPER SALE THAT ENDS DECEMBER 13 AND YOU CAN GET PRO FOR $29.99(usually $49.99!) OR EX FOR $129(usually $219!)
https://www.clipstudio.net/en/purchase/
(there are even more listed here in this reddit post that i found after typing my own list! )
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
i only listed clip studio paint in the programs that cost money because honestly i haven't done much research on others except for ones that are very pricey 🥴
Hey do y’all know of any free (or affordable) 2D animation programs? Google has not been helpful and Krita has gotten on my last nerve 😭

What do you use to animate?
I personally use Toon Boom Harmony for the animation stuff and Storyboard Pro for the animatic portion of the projects. For color tests and small sketches on hand I use my iPad app proCreate.
That being said though, you can also get cheaper programs and even some free starters to help you get your foot into animation. Along side photoshop there’s also Flash animation (now called Adobe Animate) that’s also pretty close to the programs I’m using. Search google for free alternatives too if you just want to test the waters. I saw something called Pencil 2D if you want to check that as a starting point. Some of my friends use Flipbook Studio which can also be pretty cool for animation.
I could go on forever about animation XD I’ll stop here though before the post gets too big. I really hope this helped you out with you’re question and anyone else out there with the same question!
Hey, I'm sorry in advance if this was asked already but... do any of the mods know any decent easy to learn, free, animation programs? I know this might seem like a bit of a strange ask...
Coincidentally, this has been asked already. Be sure to search our blog for key terms instead of full phrases; you’ll probably be able to find posts that way. I know tumblr’s search function was/is kind of broken so I don’t blame you though.
