To the MCYT Space: Thoughts on the Avid & Marm Aftermath
It looks like we have yet another rupture within the community, and while I absolutely condemn Avid and Marm for their harmful actions and rhetoric (you can find information here), Iāve had a few more thoughts after sitting with the aftermath:
Iām genuinely proud of everyone who came together to have a much-needed conversation in order to figureĀ out the truth and act accordingly, to get the āgood endingā to an awful situation, as Legundo put it.
My heart goes out to every single person negatively affected: the betrayed, friends, coworkers, audience members, and artistic collaborators. I hope theyāre all able to get the support and care they need. I also hope that Avid and Marm can do some self-reflection and sort out their toxic behavior, and become better people going forward. But most of all, I hope that Musi, Peeporp, and Box are able to find the stability they deserve (linked below):

About fan art, it is up to the individual how they handle it. For me personally: while I do believe in a degree of separating the art from the artist, especially when things exist within larger group projects or when supporting the art does not financially support the artist, I also have another reason for keeping it around. Going forward, I do want to see their presence fade away, but I also want to let the past be the past and treat it as what it is: history. Not an endorsement, but a record that reflects a moment in time.
We can appreciate art through a more critical lens of its subject matter, and see how it reveals not only real aspects of our shared experience, but also reframes hypocrisy, and fictional actions that end up being a little too real. To those who wish to, analyzing the warning signs can help us avoid repeating the past and help keep the entire creator space accountable.
Weāve been through situations like this far too many times as a community, and thereās not much to do beyond taking care of ourselves and taking care of each other. Sort out the truth, support those who need it, find some internal peace, and move on.Ā
In the grand scheme ofĀ humanity, the internet is strange, but especially with the advent of social media, it is a space we have little precedentĀ for. As a community, let's all do our best to recognize how parasocialityĀ can shape our expectations, reactions, and sense of responsibility, and then build the kind of space we would want to be part of, setting a positive example for all those who come after us.Ā
I donāt really have anything more definitive than that. I just hope people can move through this gently, and without causing each other more harm in the process.
With much love <3
