Attn: Asante Snap Pump Users!
For those of you using an Asante Snap Pump, you’ve probably already been notified that Asante is going out of business and will no longer be manufacturing the Snap Pump or any of its parts.
However, the good news is that both Omnipod and Animas are offering limited-time free transition offers to Snap Pump users!
I’ve never tried the Animas but I had a great experience with the Omnipod (being wireless is awesome!) However, I know the Animas pump is integrated with the Dexcom CGM which is an enormous plus. Whichever direction you go in, best of luck to all the Snap Pump users out there; I hope you find a safe and healthy alternative for your insulin needs!
My letter to Animas (aka Thanks for the Ketosis)
I want to make a general complaint to your company. As an Animas user for over two years, I have never been very satisfied with the time it takes to receive my (vital, remember, to life) insulin pump sites from the time I order them. I recognize that some of this is my fault: I shouldn't, for instance, wait until I have only two insets before ordering. Still, several times I have had more-- three or four, which should be nine to thirteen days--and still had to stretch them out to make it until I received my next order. I have asked in the past about auto-shipment options but never received any answer.
My complaint has to do mainly with my most recent experience. I ordered pump sites from you nearly two weeks ago and selected the three-day shipping option to help ensure that they arrived. Receiving no email saying they had shipped, I tried to use my sites for four and five days--resulting in two bouts of ketosis within a week. I don't know if who is reading this is a type 1 diabetic or not, but such occurrences are both emotionally terrifying--I was home alone during both--and incredibly painful. They culminate, after a few hours, in forceful vomiting. I work from home and on both of these days lost revenue because I was too sick to work. Because my order has, apparently, been sent out on the 25th and I am on my last site (which has already been in for two days), I expect the same to happen again or I switch to MDI, which is far more accessible and reliable.
From inquiring about my order over the phone yesterday, I see that you have had an issue with delivering orders speedily. May I suggest bringing more people onto the team? There are thousands, if not millions, of people who would be happy to have employment and, I am sure, help make life a little easier on the chronically ill.
