Making fun of animal sacrifice or saying nasty things about animal sacrifice in the context of Africana traditions and ATRs is racist.
Sure, everyone has the right to be grossed out by it, disagree with the concept of it, not want to do it, not want to talk about or see it. But when talking to someone who practices these religions, it would be respectful to convey these things either very politely or not at all.Â
Itâs okay not to share certain reactions or opinions to people in order to respect their practices. This is common courtesy and in some cases necessary for having enough respect to avoid being racist about traditions that you donât do and donât have to do but are an ancient part of indigenous and diasporic religions.
(Just thinking about this because in Dark Tourist the white journalist spends a lot of time describing animal sacrifice with negative words and showing how afraid and grossed out he is about it.Â
There was a way he couldâve expressed his discomfort AND shown respect for it that wouldnât be racist. He didnât do that at all lol. He was just racist.)
