//So I’m finished BSD season 5 now and whooo, that’s… a lot. A lot happened. Some good, some devastating. But also Ango has a new ship! He and Sigma could be great, and also the two of them and Chuuya are a friend group I want to see.
At least part of this is my amusement over Ango and Sigma having very similar powers.

//So was anyone going to remind me that BSD season 4 came out in March or was I just supposed to remind myself my watching funny YouTube reactions?
For some reason I thought I was caught up to s5, but no! So between yesterday and this morning I’ve watched almost the entirety of season 4.
Spoilers and thoughts under the read more!
In case anyone is wondering: yes, still absolutely insane about Ango. He’s going against the government (what organization haven’t you betrayed?), it finally explains his powers in canon, he made use of an evil government organization to clear Dazai’s name and is now listening to his heart in prison, his mentions of Oda. I love him. While Dazai and Fyodor are playing 5d multiverse chess, I have to give Ango credit for smashing it at normal chess.
Speaking of everyone’s favourite demons, I can’t believe their prison shenanigans are canon! Absolutely wild, hilarious, I love them in their funny little hamster balls plotting. They are going to be the death of me, they deserve each other, those two are playing mind games with each other no one else can even touch.
Yosano’s backstory is so incredibly dark. I knew the vague strokes of it, but also— there’s uh, tiers of concerning in the whole thing. I do sort of want to know how exactly the timeline goes between the Angel of Death stuff, to her with the agency, because Fukuzawa has Ranpo but also he and Mori’s alliance hadn’t gone to Hell.
Nikolai is delightfully insane and so very unhinged, and it’s nice to see he and Fyodor are cut from the same cloth of “lying”. Everyone seems surprised when they realize Fyodor lied, that’s what he does! He’s been doing it this whole time!
I disagree with Jouno’s career choices but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t really like him as a character. I’m relatively neutral on the rest of the Hunting Dogs if I’m honest.
Francis’… it’s not even a redemption arc, but oh what’s that term, villain decay? Yeah, that, that whole thing is both great and absolutely hilarious. I love that he’s still in Japan, so you can just guess he still wants that book.
I was curious if any of my ships had changed since I first watched the show, and honestly, no, they really haven’t. Definitely rooting to get to see more Chuuya and Ango scenes though!
Update as I finish the penultimate episode of season 4: I knew next to nothing about Sigma going into this, and that’s an absolute shame, he’s fabulous.
Continuing thoughts!
Sigma’s hair is awful, but him weaponizing the casino against the Hunting Dogs??? Poetic. There’s something so satisfying in that whole idea.
Speaking of them! I get the distinct feeling that Tachihara has been gone from them for too long, I’m waiting for some betrayal of sorts.
“In my humble yet correct opinion,” Fedya have you ever been a humble a day in your life?
//I did this one twice because I wasn’t sold on the first result, so I’ll post both answers.
Frightened
Hooo boy you are scary. People either feel intimidated by you or they're definitely nervous. Who knew people like that existed? You know you make people a bit scared, but to be honest, you don't mind it. Having such a strong personality is not something everyone can deal with, so wear it with pride! And maybe relax the shoulders a bit? You aren't mean, but you can definitely be very sharp edged. It's easy to tick you off sometimes but you're not super explosive and that's what makes you scary. One could say you're INCREDIBLY intelligent. Sometimes so much that you get a little quiet from time to time but you rebound by doing outlandish things every now and then. Kind of like a tornado in an eerily quiet cornfield. Bonus points for being so cool though!
Melancholic
Now now, you don't make people sad! You're like a quiet mist, a fog that rolls in and makes people talk in lower voices and think a lot. You're like nostalgia walking, people meet you and feel like they could have known you on the swing set as a kid, or someone who left a lasting impression all those years ago. You're good at advice, but it's never attached too hard to emotion. You're like a wise old sage, you tell of things that are true, and you don't waste time on any of the hysterics. You move calmly, like a lazy river on a chilly autumn day, and you remind people of the rain, quiet and contemplative. Everyone needs someone like you to ground them.
you're sometimes overwhelmed by how much you feel, and you don't always know what to do with all those feelings. you value honesty. you want to feel at peace, and you try not to take the little things for granted. you believe you are part of something bigger than yourself. your actions and opinions reflect your care for other people. you're not necessarily an optimist but you hold onto hope. you take life as it comes, but you don't let it walk all over you
I did not mean to love you. I did not mean to sleep in your bed, or get inside your head.
I didn’t understand it was love, until I was looking at you in the kitchen at three am, and thought “this man is the most beautiful person I have ever seen”.

Which traditional Japanese aesthetic concept speaks to your soul?
間 ma
ma is the term for the Japanese concept of negative space. Though commonly used to refer to literal, visible negative space, ma may also refer to the mere perception of such, without necessarily requiring a physical compositional element. ma combines the characters for door and sun, which together depict a door through the crevice of which the sunlight peeps in. ma is filled with nothing but energy and feeling, thus enabling growth, sparking creativity and permitting freedom. It is the momentary pause in speech needed to convey meaningful words and the sincerity of a feeling, the silence between the notes that make the music. ma is an emptiness full of possibilities, like a promise yet to be fulfilled.
Blue eyes snap wide open, quick breaths leaving chapped lips. Slowly, Chuuya uncurls himself, sitting up carefully. He doesn't recognize the room he's in, but he certainly recognizes the figure sleeping beside him. Ango appears undisturbed. Too tense to full back asleep even as the memories crawl back into the dark pit in his subconscious, Chuuya nevertheless allows himself a small smile at the sight, even as he tries to gingerly slip out of bed without waking the other.
Sleep had never come easy to Ango— as a child it had always been light, so easily disturbed by the sounds of the house and his parents endless arguing. When he’d been older and working for the Port Mafia, it had been a matter of self-preservation, you didn’t sleep heavily in the mafia, it was the sort of thing that got you killed. And in the same way he still slept in hotels, he still slept lightly.
Chuuya wakes up, and beside him Ango can feel the shifting in the bed, and the creak of the springs. His eyes flick open, and for a second or two he waits for his eyes to adjust to the dark. There’s a thin line of light from around the curtains, and the clock on the bedside table stands out with its red display. Nightmares his mind fills in for him, at least it’s the most likely option.
Ango yawns and rolls over, reaching one hand out to grasp Chuuya’s wrist before he can get out of the bed. “Chuuya?” He says, voice feeling syrupy, tongue ungainly. “Is everything alright?” He assumes not, he can feel the tension even in Chuuya’s wrist, like a loaded gun, waiting to spring into action. “Do you want to talk?”
