It's not used cause it's kind of rare to be in a nuclear family nowadays, what with divorce, single parents and kids being brought up by other relatives. It used to be a bad thing to not be in a nuclear family, but society changed that, thankfully
That’s the nice thing about the word “gezin”, it’s more about people you live with than the perfect nuclear family.
It basically refers to children and guardians living together, wheter it’s through blood relation, adoption or any other kind of situation.
