[No spoilers here, not even really a rant. Just a plea from one storyteller to another (not that he'll ever read this).]
Dear Steven Moffat, Do you know why we all still love Sherlock Holmes? Why we still love any fictional characters? Why we keep reading books and watching movies / shows, going to plays and singing songs? It's because people like stories.
And do you know the best kind of stories?
The ones that, no matter how complex they seem, are simple. Ones that let the audience do the work and get the reward. They don't need constant reinvention, they don't need sudden plot twists out of thin air, they sometimes don't even need much more a conversation.
Don't write a story to prove how clever you are - let the story you tell prove it for you. Stop trying so hard to impress us and just... tell a story.
