6 Reasons Lions Fan Shouldn't Want Matthew Stafford To Be Andrew Luck OK now that the initial dust has settled, can we all agree that Matthew Stafford is not Andrew Luck, either literally or figuratively! Andrew Luck recently retired from the NFL with what many have considered a Superbowl capable team. He's said that the pain that he's going through is just too much to bare; so he's done playing football in the NFL! Well many are now wondering if could or should pull an Andrew Luck with the Lions. Some fans are even contemplating if the Lions would be better off if Stafford, somehow tank the season to draft a quarterback in the upcoming draft. Fire the whole regime and start over completely! This is seriously on some of the Lions fans minds if you can believe it or not! Well know that Matthew Stafford is not Andrew Luck because not only has Stafford played longer in the NFL; he's been consistently available (knock on wood)! Andrew Luck has had multiple injuries over his years in the NFL and quite frankly it's understandable that his body simply can't take the week to week physical pounding anymore!

So Why Shouldn't Fans Want Stafford To Pull An Andrew Luck?

If he's healthy and heart is still in the game, then there's no reason for the Lions to veer off the Patriot-Seahawk foundation that they are building. Some people feel that coach Matt Patricia should be ousted if the team doesn't make the playoffs this season and GM Bob Quinn should be shown the door at the same time, but if doing things the "Patriot way" is to be fully seen it's going to take a few or more seasons (3-5)! The team has to:

Build depth at every position (literally every position)

Get the majority of the players into to cap friendly contracts

Fill out the roster with guys who can play multiple positions

Build a system that continuously find and groom talent that fits this system

Build a rushing attack that consistently controls the time of possession (presently ongoing)

Build a defense that is proficient at getting the ball back to the offense (Turnovers/3rd or 4th down stops)

We say that if/since Matthew Stafford is healthy enough to play, and has decided to play, then we, as Lions fans, have to see this system build get its' full chance to be established and show that it can turn the fortunes of this organization! If Stafford retires then you have to add finding a starting QB that you can pencil i for the next 10+ years (hopefully not an Andrew Luck situation), and you can't miss on the draft pick (think Arizona and Josh Rosen)! What do you say? Do you want Stafford gone? Patricia or Quinn gone?
