FILLORY. QUENTIN’S saving grace through all the dark periods in his life. he understands why margo and eliot conspired to bring him here after everything. after quentin came back from death and wasn’t exactly as euphoric as everyone thought he should be. and he didn’t necessarily disagree with them. but it also felt like a lot curled up under his chest without anyone to talk to about it. MAYBE to alice, but things were still... strange between them. 

SO FILLORY. where he isn’t really king anymore ( apparently there’d been a whole moment there with a dark king and the end of fillory while he’d been dead; he wasn’t sure he understood it all ), not really. but it does feel like a version of home for him. maybe it can fix him. he’s only vaguely people-watching as the castle comes and goes, a half-forgotten cup of wine curled in his hand. the face catches him subcociously first, not realizing what it is about her that makes him glance up. and then he sees her. REALLY sees her, and before he knows what he’s doing, he’s  standing.

“ oh, bambi. ”  the words come on the tail end of a sigh, margo sinking further into him like all the fight’s rushed out of her at once. like eliot’s finally given her the permission she needed to let her guard down, even a little. he knows it’s more than a privilege, getting to see her like this; as open as she ever gets, finally allowing the exhaustion she so viciously staves off settle on her shoulders, show on her face. eliot presses a kiss to the top of her head, breathes in the ludicrously expensive shampoo she uses, eyes drifting shut. margo’s breathing starts to even to something deep and slow, more of her weight resting against him until eliot’s sure she’s completely slumped against him, lax with sleep.

it’s been a while since they’d last done this, and even longer since eliot has let himself relax completely. it’s not like fillory’s turned into a nest of vipers overnight --- the damn place has been trying to kill them since the day the crowns touched their heads. but the messes have been compounding as of late, a seemingly endless shower of clusterfucks raining down on them and threatening to drown eliot. he’s barely keeping his head above water, and he wouldn’t be if it weren’t for margo. so he’s more than happy to submit to her attentions, to the firm but gentle hands guiding him to lay with his head in his lap, and surrender to the deft fingers carding through his hair --- careful with the tangles and snarls, as always.
