Luke wasn’t feeling good and you could tell. He tossed and turned all throughout the night and today, he was cooped up on the couch under a couple blankets. He was in and out of sleep all day, but wouldn’t admit to not feeling good.

It wasn’t until his fever spiked that he became truly miserable. He looked pitiful, super pale and just completely out of it. You brought him some medicine to lower the fever and a mug of tea, hoping that would help too.

“Can you sing to me?” Luke asked. He had his head on your chest, completely snuggled up to you.

“Sure,” you smiled. Luke loved it when you sang to him. He always sang to you when you were sick or couldn’t sleep, so it was only fair that you return the favor.

God your eyes. They must be my favourite feature of you.

I love staring in them and dreaming away. I love seeing them sparkle when you talk about something you love.

When you get really happy or tell a joke and smile real big, your eyes smile too. I can’t hide the smile forming on my lips when I see your beautiful smile. I would do everything to make you smile and take all your pain and sadness away.

My heart breaks in a million pieces when I see tears forming in your eyes and fall down your cheeks.

I melt everytime I look in your eyes.

I love the eye contact we have after we kiss. They say there’s nothing more intimate than eye contact, but for me the most intimate thing is looking in your eye while making love.

I blame it on my daddy issues. I never had a good relationship with my dad. I always saw him verbally abuse my mom, I never knew and still don’t know why she stays with him. The only sort of affection I ever got from him is when he’s making fun of me. Pointing out my bad sides and mistakes. I never received one genuine compliment without it having a bitter/mean undertone.

Everytime he acts nice I think “maybe for once it will stay that way, maybe this time he’ll show genuine affection”. He never does, but I still hope that one day it’ll happen.

That’s why I stick around when people treat me badly. I never knew another kind of love from a man than this. I learned to accept affection in the form of no affection at all, in making fun of me and never hearing him say “I’m proud of you”.

Don’t get me wrong, after all I love my dad. He thought me a lot of things, but most of all he showed me what I don’t want for my children.
