As Ratchet’s oldest friend and longtime Amica, Orion always believed they could tell each other anything, embarrassing secrets, crushes, datapads, you name it. That’s why Orion is at a loss when Ratchet starts developing all the signs and symptoms of a carrying mech but absolutely refuses to talk about it. Everytime Orion brings it up, Ratchet shuts him down, telling him he has no idea what he’s talking about. Which is complete and utter bs, Orion has carried before, Ratchet helped him deliver his bittie in secret and forged his documents to protect him from the Senate!

Then it happens. Ratchet calls Orion for help in the middle of emergence from the Dead End and the truck rushes to his friend’s side. There, Orion does his best to support Ratchet, tearfully thinking about how Ratchet did the same for him when he delivered Orion and his beloved Senator’s bittie.

Once they’re both cleaned up and biotic is feeding from Ratchet, Orion has to ask. Why? Why keep it a secret? Ratchet grumbles before finally confessing.

While Orion was on the run with the Outliers (+Roller), Ratchet was lonely. So very lonely. But a former patient of his needed his help hiding from enforcers and Ratchet obliged. They got close and against Ratchet’s better judgment, started courting. But then Ratchet found out exactly what his courtmate had done to warrant running from enforcers in the first place and that he’d been recruited by the organized crime bosses as a hired gun. Ratchet broke things off and went into denial about carrying because he felt so foolish, getting involved with a former patient like that.

Orion’s stunned by this but immediately goes into reassuring Amica mode, promising to help Ratchet and his bittie.

I think this is one of my favorite scenes: Amicia having a breakdown scared of being alone and Lucas showing up to make sure he's there for her.

Their gaze says so much about their relationship in this moment.

Consider : outing yourself means outing your Carrier and some of your siblings.

I do not think Optimus planned to out himself to Ratchet, at least not at the beginning. It's only when he helped Ratchet to transport and heal several tank carriers in his friend's clandestine clinic, and after a few years, that he said it, before they became Amicas. It was a secret too heavy for him.

This is also the reason why, during a long time (for Shockwave), he brushed aside all conversations about Conjunxing. Actually, he seriously considered going back to the Archives and stayed over there for the rest of his life. The thing is: Shockwave occasionally helped Ratchet at the clinic. Usually, he was not here when tank carriers came, but one day, Ratchet and Orion had no choice but to ask him for help. Then again, only after several times Orion outed himself.
