@amegatari​ asked:  "kakashi~" she's sloppy. she can't walk straight. her arms and her head feel heavy. but whatever they've given her eases the ache in her stomach. she's beckoning him over to her hospital bed, giggling, "i wanna tell you a secret," no time is given to react, but she grabs his shirt once he's close enough, "i'm very... very in... love with... you!! surprised? don't... tell anyone, kay?"

There was a brief smile hidden beneath the mask as he was beckoned to the hospital bed, but he moved very easily until he was close enough and she was holding onto him. Kakashi could not refuse her anything, not after what he had done to her, and so he stood there, letting her hold onto him and listened to what she was saying. Her words caught him and his visible eye widened wondering why she felt such things for him, what he had done to deserve her to still care for him. 

her  voice  is  slightly  higher  when  she’s  lying.  gaara  watches  her  for  a  moment,  before  waving  her  in  to  actually  enter  his  office.  no  one  else  is  around.  he  gauges  whether  he  should  call  her  bluff,  or  ignore  the  situation.  putting  her  on  the  spot  might  make  her  feel  worse,  but…  seeing  her  so  beaten  up  makes  him  chew  on  the  inside  of  his  cheek.  

he’s  a  bit  angry,  to  say  the  least.  a  fan  didn’t  do  that.  

❛  i  have  the  time,  yes,  if  you  are  going  to  be  honest  with  me.  ❜    is  finally  spoken  once  she  enters  completely,  &  the  door  is  closed  behind  her  with  sand.  gaara’s  tone  is  stern,  but  not  directly  angry.  not  at  her,  at  least.  at  her,  it’s  only  worry.  she  seems  too  casual  for  this  to  have  been  the  first  time  it’s  happened.  does  kankuro  know  of  these  injuries,  or  if  she’s  received  them  before?  he’d…  tell  gaara  if  he  did,  right?  they  trust  him,  right?

he wonders if tenten has ever seen him without facepaint. it’s irrelevant, so very insignificant in the face of what he’s just survived, but the thought does pass through kankuro’s mind. everything is so hazy, a likely side-effect to sakura’s antidote still working it’s way through his system, and for that reason, his sister is hesitant to let anyone in to see him. but tenten, he insists on seeing, he insists she in’t just anyone, and temari has to relent ( it’s easier to convince her now that they have gaara back. the sheer relief of saving both your little brothers from the brink is one hell of a drug ).

she sits with him now, and he tries to stay conscious, but kankuro comes and goes. her words from one of those times he’d held on long enough to have a conversation echo in his head each time he slips under. i’m here if you need anything, okay? and it seems she wasn’t over-exaggerating; tenten is always there when eyes flicker awake again. like she hasn’t moved an inch from beside him. 

he’s exposed. his face, his chest; he’s completely vulnerable before her, slipping in and out of wakefulness in front of her eyes. more than that, she’d found him after master sasori had left him to die - she’d seen him, smudged facepaint, ripped robes, paled skin, half dead. it should all make him nervous ( when has he ever let a shinobi from another nation see him like this? ) but tenten can be trusted, this he knows deep inside. not only an ally, not only the saviour of the kazekage, she’s dear to him. those letters and kisses exchanged over the past few years carry weight in kankuro’s heart and, if he’s reading tenten’s expression correctly ( worry, care, love? ), in hers as well. 

this time when he comes around, kankuro feels well enough to speak. it hurts to move too much, but he’ll squeeze tenten’s hand in his to get her attention. “you saved me. temari told me it was your team who found me.” what do you think of me now? now that you know i can be so weak? now that you’ve watched me fight the poison from my veins and almost lose? now that you can see me whole and naked and unpainted?

shino is nothing if not a proud teacher. despite his students being more than a little... difficult, watching them grow & improve as quickly as they are fills him with a kind of joy that makes the endless frustration... worth it. shino loves his students. he will support them so long as they allow.

now, sumire.

kakei sumire is a very special child.

it... hurt, knowing what she was going through. being a school teacher means running the risk of learning horrifying things about students, or their families, & shino had experienced a few of these situations. nothing ever too serious, nothing that he couldn't help with, nothing he couldn't contact anyone for. but how do you save a child from the lingering sentiments of the dead?

‘ will you let me help you? ’

he didn't know what he was saying. he didn't know how to help. he still doesn't. but... she seemed so happy.

sumire had wormed her way into his heart & built herself a home in it.

captain doesn’t suit him, least of all when it falls from tenten’s lips. kankuro, who always flies under the radar, big brother to the kazekage. he leads teams within the puppet corps sometimes, sure, but to be in charge of soldiers from every nation, the homelands of his squad-members stretching further than kankuro himself has ever travelled - it’s a big deal, and unlike anything he’s ever done before. the stress wears on him, the fear of being actively at war would tear him apart if not for- 

“tenten. yeah, come in. please.” the formality stifles him, it has ever since he became her captain, and it feels a thousand miles away from them. he’s looking over plans, topographic images of the battlefield, paths that run through the unfamiliar lands where they’re stationed, but he drops them in an instant for tenten. what could be more important than her. her words come out clipped, unsure, and he knows something’s wrong ( well, wronger than usual ), so he’ll hold out his arms to gather her up, hold her close to his chest. at least there, pressed against him, he can protect her. kankuro places a kiss into tangled hair as he listens ( they are all well overdo for a shower and a rest ), hums thoughtfully while she attempts to speak.

“Rin hm? Why so curious. It’s dangerous asking questions like that...” 

Are his words serious or something more of a tease, a deliberate machination to unnerve his questioner. It’s hard to tell. Personal feelings don’t come easily and yet... This is Rin. Rin who has cared for him in some way since they were children. Rin who stayed with him after they lost Obito and continued to be on his team. Rin who fell victim to his chidori, but still agreed to live with him, to raise Naruto with him, to make a home with him. Rin who always gave and never asked, who endured his silence and nightmares, his stint in anbu, his grief and anger and determination to put himself in harm’s way at every available opportunity as if he were daring the Earth itself to kill him quickly. 

Rin who loves him. 

“What is there to say that cannot already have been said before? She has the patience of the saint, I suppose. Enduring myself and Obito in our youth, enduring myself after, enduring the village while coming to terms with her status as a jinchuriki, and becoming a parent, enduring pre-genin... She certainly knows how to continue in the face of hardship...” 

There’s a smile beneath a mask and a sense of fondness in his gaze as he thinks on Rin, the warmth of her smile, her unrelenting ability to make him feel wanted and important, her capacity for love and forgiveness that exceeded anything he had ever seen, her desire to protect and love fiercely. The way her love was infused into every little thing she did whether it was dashing around with Naruto and meeting his excited conversation or sitting with him in silence, being still to simply be present. She had learnt his ways and memorised them, never asked him to change but instead found a way for them to exist together.

Warm shafts of sunshine splintered across the room, a crisp, refreshing breeze filtering in through the partially open window. He sat - as if he could do anything else - with his eyes fixed upon the sky, hands resting upon the arms of his chair. It was a step up from the bed, at least, but it was a frustration he couldn’t shake to be unable to navigate the world unassisted. Small steps, he told himself. Small steps.

His eyes found the dark shape of a bird cutting across the blue and he sighed, letting his gaze fall away. Thankfully, at that moment, he heard the sound of approaching footsteps and he recognised the chakra signature at once. It was enough to bring a smile to his face and he carefully manoeuvred his chair around, putting his back to the window.

It was a rare thing to get the opportunity for a lie-in, rarer still for Tenzo to use it. He’d been a naturally early riser his entire life and he’d never seen the point of lying around in bed when he could be doing productive things - at least, until he shared his bed with another warm body and discovered the absolute joy of cosy morning cuddles. Suddenly, there was a very good reason for staying in bed.

But this time, when his arm stretched out across the bed, his hand met only empty air and sheets only just starting to cool. Eyes blinked open, a definite pout on his face when he confirmed that the other side of the bed was empty. Well, that wasn’t allowed. He dragged himself from the bed reluctantly, tugging on a robe as he padded through to the kitchen where - he now noticed - he could smell food and coffee.
