kyojuro can't exactly say he'd expected to be anything close to what he's become. a sort of mentor to the last uchiha... it seems like a title way out of his league. & while kyojuro has no knowledge of what exactly an uchiha should be learning... he's more than happy to pass on his what he does know to the new age.

there's a fire burning brightly in that boy's eyes. to let it fizzle out would be unforgivable.

yamato... well, he's not particularly special. he's foolish & naïve & clumsy. the man seemingly took one look at mitsuki before deciding to simply keep him. the tiny serpent didn't care much, truly, & admittedly only agreed to stay with the elder because he liked the idea of not paying rent anymore.

it would be wrong to even imply this to still be the case.

“ i owe yamato-san a lot. he's taught me so much, ” like how people love me. like how i'm human. like how— “ notably, he's taught me that house plants make amazing therapists. ”

... that too. mitsuki's always been good at avoiding talking about his feelings, but the fondness in his tone makes it more than clear. he loves his new guardian. he feels at home in that residence bursting with life in the form of tiny potted plants.

shino is nothing if not a proud teacher. despite his students being more than a little... difficult, watching them grow & improve as quickly as they are fills him with a kind of joy that makes the endless frustration... worth it. shino loves his students. he will support them so long as they allow.

now, sumire.

kakei sumire is a very special child.

it... hurt, knowing what she was going through. being a school teacher means running the risk of learning horrifying things about students, or their families, & shino had experienced a few of these situations. nothing ever too serious, nothing that he couldn't help with, nothing he couldn't contact anyone for. but how do you save a child from the lingering sentiments of the dead?

‘ will you let me help you? ’

he didn't know what he was saying. he didn't know how to help. he still doesn't. but... she seemed so happy.

sumire had wormed her way into his heart & built herself a home in it.

that name being uttered in his presence is almost enough to set him off itself. almost. it's barely noticeable, the twitch of his brow. the way gaara seems to sigh at knowing he should, at least, be a little polite about this.

saying ‘ no, fuck you, ’ would be too harsh, & admittedly very unbecoming of a kazekage.

& so gaara crosses his arms over his chest & pretends he's not bothered at all. no one needs to know. he was a loose-lipped child, admittedly, but his woes are no longer everyone else's to endure. they have not been for a very long time.

the redhead speaks after an almost intimidating silence.

“ rasa was the fourth kazekage. he had a wife & three children. then he was killed, ” his tone is cold, monotone in a way that might make someone think he's angry. but, is he? probably not. he'd tell himself he's just tired, “ this is the list of his most notable accomplishments. not very impressive, is it? ”

he knows that's not what this person wanted. he knows they wanted to hear about his personal life. he knows they're intentionally poking their nose into things they shouldn't.
