The Amazonian Manatee for day 11 of the #undyingtalesproject @undyingtales . These darling creatures which are mammals most closely related to Elephants are endangered all over the world where they live (there are 4 main species) Interestingly in the Amazon one of their favorite foods is the water hyacinth plant which has one of the prettiest flowers and grows naturally in the Amazon but ironically is an invasive species throughout the world ( choking out native plants and waterways). Here I pictured a manatee being cleaned by little fish which occurs in the wild. There are many fascinating myths associated with the manatee, most including the idea that they are transformed humans, sirens or mermaids.
