You know how I dislike fantasy designs that are just “human but not quite”. So when I DM for DnD, I like to take some “canon” gods and modify them to suit my worldbuilding tastes better. I like to have gods arranged in Houses, Clans or similar setups, grouped by Ao the Overgod or by choise of the gods in question.
As an example, I would like to show off my design for the House of the Heaven, one of the most central divine Houses.
It’s headed by Amaunator, God of Celestial Pathways and the Movements of the Heavens. On his native plane he appears as a black furred canine with two faces and three eyes. He appears rarely to mortals, but prefers the guise of a very tall and lanky humanoid in dark, wizard-like clothing.
Pelor is the winged, golden cow with the sun on their horns. They are the God of the Sun, Agriculture, Hope and Forgiveness. They are often worshiped by humans and halflings, appearing to their worshipers as a golden suit of armor wreathed in warm flame.
Lathander is the protector of the sun when it passes the horizon at dawn and dusk, as well as the God of Birth, Fertility and Renewal. They are enthusiastic and optimistic, flapping their varying number of rose-and-gold wings to match their emotional state rather than to stay in flight. To mortals he usually appears only as a glow around the heads of his devoted followers.
The twin goddesses Sêlune and Shar are very tricky to depict in a “true” form, as they are shapeshifters, even up to a point of being uncomfortable confined to one shape for long. They are primal gods, representing the light and darkness of the ancient skies. Sêlune’s domain are the fazes of the Moons and cleansing of the soul through sorrow, and Shar’s are darkness and fading memories.
so
before Lathander was Lathander, before Lathander fucked up with the Dawn Cataclysm, he was... Amaunator? And he had a daughter, Amuana, who died young.

i decided a long time ago is that if these two ever met that Khestrelar would insta-adopt Shaela - i mean, little miss “my seven human uncles resent me for cutting them off in the line of succession and have been sending assassins after me since i was born and are also involved in weird cult stuff”? instant daughter. anyway i finally got around to drawing them together, pls enjoy
wholesome art from a while ago i forgot to post - Toadie, boy wizard extraordinaire, invented ‘Dayvision’ goggles to negate Khestrelar’s sunlight sensitivity so she could stand outside in the sun for the first time in 200 years and it made all of us cry
