One of my favorite PCs is a little sea goblin I made for one shots. Their name is Grackle and they’re just wretched little cleric of Umberlee the Bitch Queen. Needless to say, Grackle is not a great person.
On Grackle’s first one shot they found a half drowned sailor without party supervision and slit the guys throat while dedicating the death to Umberlee, then went back to the party with a straight face and said there were no survivors. You can see why Grackle isn’t main campaign material.
However the next time I pulled Grackle from the deck I was collaborating with my beloved. My beloved made a character called Granny who had adopted this scrungly little goober and was rehabilitating them. I needed to roll up new stats because the first sheet had been lost and Grackle wound up with severely negative charisma, an utter delight to play.
All Granny wanted was the money to open a little bakery. All Grackle wanted was for Granny to think well of them. I feel like their dynamic would make some cute little comics honestly, because Grackle still has murder in their twisty little heart but they also want Granny to keep loving them and feeding them pastries. There are two wolves inside Grackle and both are terrible.

Customizing my character to look dead inside from the start + these bozos just standing there doing nothing while the pancham runs away during the cutscene... it really gives the player character the vibe of "well fuck me i guess, it was a good run"

introducing my dol npc, navi the ringmaster 🎪 he’s the kind of guy who’ll smile at you like a gentleman while casually deciding if you’re better as an acrobat or a mop.
what he brings to the game: navi serves as both a people-of-interest npc and a storyline hub. he offers the player “work” at the circus, performances, errands, odd jobs, under the guise of volunteering. but every task comes with hidden costs: debts, fines, or favors owed. the longer the pc stays, the harder it becomes to walk away.
navi can act as a patron, a captor, or a twisted mentor depending on how much the player entertains him. his circus is equal parts spectacle and exploitation, and the player has to decide how deep they want to let him pull them in.
