“Franco,” Luca says, after a second, or several. A minute, perhaps; Franky’s not sure. “What—why is he calling you?” His voice is a little looser than normal, a little too harsh. He would not be asking this if it weren’t for the champagne, Franky thinks, somewhat ruefully; but here they are in the middle of a fucking party, champagne and all, and Luca's curiosity is jumping the gun. Why is he calling you? No question of why Franky did not pick up—that, of course, a foregone conclusion, a known quantity. Luca is, in Franky’s extensive experience, usually more immune to naivety than that; usually less willing to grasp onto the obvious answer. But this is—this is something that a lot of them are naive about, he supposes. Him included.

(and if you were wondering about ciao as well - it does mean hi/hello! but thats less indicative of friendship i would say and more about the formality of the situation/your relative positions? e.g. the riders mostly say ciao to each other even if theyre not reallyy friends but (to give an example from the press conference video) franky and the gresini engineer who popped in said giorno / buon pomeriggio to each other bc presumeably theyre either strangers or like barely know each other and its that sort of professional/polite context)
