it's ironic to me that editors are so often stereotyped as cold slashers of darlings, because actually i am the only reader an author is going to get who will cradle each wounded sentence tenderly and ask who would you be if you were good? how can i help you stand on two feet? no other reader is going to approach literally every sentence, every clause, every letter of an author's text with this kind of endless attention, generosity, patience, and total belief in their ability and ideas.

Working on editing chapter five of Jack's citadel fic and that argument between Jack & Hackett is one of my favorite scenes that I've written this year.

I'm editing a sentence. I'm rearranging words, trying different phrasing, scowling at the screen, and generally fighting with what I want to say. Why? Because the darn sentence works perfectly with an em-dash. But I feel obligated to reword it anyway. Stupid AI....

Spent today finishing up edits for "Without a Star" and then finally made myself a template for my book layouts so I don't have to be redoing a bunch of work each time. Should I have done this years ago? Yes! But here we are. At least it's done now.
