I think the most likely time for them to get together is actually after the first part of the manga -- which I know that's super weird of me to say considering that it's likely sherliam is like a Thing if everything goes to canon.

But I also think that this is where William is most receptive to the idea of being loved for himself -- even if Albert has meant it the whole time.

When was the last time I saw it? In our teenage years, when we played catch together? The three of us, days before you had to leave for Eton.

We then filled our lives with our roles. It was needed to create the world we both longed for. Never a smile you wore on your face again, only smirks.

We are once again together now, in the new world we created. Do I still have a chance?

LOL I hope you're not disappointed with my very biased answer but here's my idea...

Imagine they're all in the same AU. Albert was distant from his friends and he was kind of like a mystery in the school. He hated events like the prom but he had to do it, so he determined it would be the last thing that he did in his school times. He asked William to be his fake date, which became the beginning point of their future relationship... Okay getting back to the topic, William asked whether he would have to disguise as a woman or not, in which Albert replied "Nah, you can go as you are. I don't mind at all." So they went together and all his friends froze because they never thought... and when that one guy who had no shame dared to ask if Albert's gay, he just easily answered "Maybe?" with his smile. That broke so many girls' heart that day.

Meanwhile Sherlock just remembered about the prom the day before so when he asked his best friend and ex crush Liam, Liam said sorry because he already had a plan to go the prom with Albert... So Sherlock begged John, his roommate, but John also refused because he already had plans with his current girlfriend, whom Sherlock didn't remember who because John changed girlfriends so fast every time. John suggested Sherlock to ask Louis... Sherlock dread it because he just had a big fight with Louis but he dared to ask him in the end XD Louis shot him with his best "I'm going to kill you myself" glare, but still came anyway. Louis was truly a softie~
