When Sebastian researches each person and discovers Ciel's grandmother, he states that there appears to be no obvious factors in common between each of them.

But on a reread, this scene stuck out to me:

Clearly the "great power" in question is a demon's power.

And, still on that same topic of forgetting the weight of a soul in exchange for demonic power, he picks up the locket and says he "warned the lot of you".

This brings me to believe that all of the people in the mourning lockets sold their souls to demons - including Claudia.

That's as far as I can go based on evidence, but if Claudia made a deal with a demon... I can only begin to imagine what she wished for and the effect it unknowingly had on Vincent and the Ciels' lives.

The DNA aspect of the hair also intrigues me - Undertaker seems to have no hope for reanimating Vincent because he "burned down to the marrow of his bones," but perhaps as long as there's some remnant of viable DNA, he thinks it'll be possible with enough research. (And Vincent being absent from the lockets doesn't necessarily mean he didn't make a deal with the devil, but perhaps that there is simply no hair to bring him back with.)

You want to study abroad? Show us proof that there is a quadrillion dollars in your bank account. Oh, an average monthly salary in your country is $400 and you plan to work when you arrive? You can't do that, silly, a student visa only allows you to work 2 hours every third Wednesday, and if we find out that you're working a second more we will deport you.

You want to work abroad? Better be a programmer, then of course you are welcome. Doctor, scientist, white-collar or, god forbid, blue-collar worker? You can fuck right off, your visa application goes straght into trash.

Sebastian is one of his loyal hounds. Also he hates dogs but he is compared to them quite often in official art. He embodies a lot of the positive qualities we associate with dogs. Loyal, will selflessly sacrifice it's own well being to protect it's owner, loves to be praised and admired by other humans when they do a thing well... the list goes on. Seb hates dogs because he hates looking at his own'weaknesses' imo.

Sebastian kneeling to use his own leg as a stool for Ciel's foot despite their being a perfectly good stool nearby. Ciel being completely at ease knowing he has control over his demon. he could use the crop (order him directly) to force him to obey his commands but he doesn't need to. It's on display but at ease. A perfect metaphor for how their dynamic has evolved over the past 3 years.

This was used on the special edition box set for Book of the Atlantic. It's stunning. The black background really makes the colours and all of the fine details pop. The way the light hits the hair utterly stunning.
