šš“š³ š³š“š°š³ šš“š½šš“š½š²š“š.Ā Ā /Ā @alurazeāā asked: i know i canāt change the past, but iām sure gonna do something about the future.
ā yes! ā the glasses on the table rattled with the force of johannaās palm striking down on the wood for emphasis.Ā ā that is precisely it, madam. there is no sense whatsoever in dwelling on the past, no matter what the context. it is the future we drink to. ā
@alurazeā sent: 'kara was hoping you might join us for tea in the gardens tomorrow'
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Mary feels herself perk. It really must be what a dog feels, when its tail starts wagging and its ears twitch forward. Sheās never regretted it--her spinster state, one might say, her own childlessness--but she does so love and miss that particular kind of sunshine that comes about with the presence of a small child; she hasnāt had it in her life in, oh, ages. At work she only deals with the very large sort of child, the kind that smokes cigarettes behind the movie theater and thinks of themselves as very grown-up indeed--the sunshine there is quite different... And in much shorter supply.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āKara said that?ā And Alura wants her there too? Surely she wouldnāt have mentioned it, if she didnāt want to see Mary as well. Her heart gives a silly little flutter. āYes--yes. Iād love to.ā
@aluraze wants the confession.Ā
In which I would imagine this probably still happens a good couple of months from this, if not a full on year and I stg poor Alura is such a patient soul
āYou know, itās a littleā¦clichĆ©ā¦ā
The sound of Catās hum is lost underneath the soft sunlight settling on the couch, its aura painting Alura in a familiar, soft hue of warmth. Her skin seems to soak it in like a flower and fingertips chase that heat all the way down to her heartbeat, thumb thoughtlessly tracing the line of it. Its skipāits dance--its familiarity. A constant rhythm in the back of the mindāa tickle in the back of the throatāmaybe Cat had spent weeks and months and years tapping out the beat of it with a fountain pen against the edge of a desk.
Maybe her breath had turned into a staccato rhythm to match, the noise of it catching in a beat on the edge of her tongue with every word she spoke.
She thinks it so much nowā
Maybe sheād taken it for granted, how something so loud couldnāt possibly be so silent.
āOh, yes, this is definitely clichĆ©. Iām a woman who favors action, you know that. I donāt tend toā¦stew. Oh, I think through everything, obviouslyāā That tracing hand waves before nails skim along Aluraās collarbone. Not nearly as lazy as it is intentional. Tracing her. āI go through every possible avenue for every single scenario, whether I claim to, or not. But, hmmā¦thatās different than beingā¦ā Her tongue darts out over her lips, easing up on the couch on this easy weekday morning where sheās slept in for the first time sinceā¦the last time Alura was here. A little more frequent. A little more difficult to fall asleep, at all, without her there. āā¦Inert. I always make a decision and, hmmā¦sometimes itās impulsive. Usually itās calculated. But I always stick to it. So I find it a littleā¦out of character for myself,ā
The tracing stops and Cat leans up the rest of the way on the couch, but doesnāt pull away despite the fact that sheās well aware that Alura can hear her heartbeat
Itās only fair, since thatās all Catās heard for years.
āThat youāre here. And weāre together. And Iāve been so in love with you for so long and never told you. Oh, maybe I couldnāt, for a while. Thatās true. Maybe I showed youāIāmā¦certain you know, thatās true too. But I donāt think you have any ideaāā And oh, her breath is caught, now, in the back of her quivering throat, smothered underneath that heartbeat and moisture she tries to keep there. And itās clear, even now, that dreaded knowing. That inevitability hanging over her shoulder like some stiletto heel ready to drop. Because they shouldnāt have time for moments like this and suddenly Cat seizes it with everything she can. āI always thought it wasnāt the right moment. I didnāt want it to beā¦dramatic. Some bedside confession or cheesyā¦morning moment that weād be forced to make a big deal out of. And yet here we are, anyways. Early morning dramatics.ā Eyes close, but not for long, āDo you know?ā That hand pushes up to cup Aluraās cheek, āDo you know how much I love you?ā

it HAPPENS so fast. one second argo is there and in another argo is GONE. just as quickly as she lost it the first time around. she knows she should feel relief that kal, lois, and jon have made it off safely. but thereās a dead weight that sits in the pit of her stomach that wonāt go away. her mother is GONE.Ā her surroundings blur as tears emerge. her knees start to feel weak. this almost feels as bad as kryptonite poisoning. except this time the poison is inside of her. when the room comes into focus she sees her mother standing in the doorway of the command center. she doesnāt believe it. not with lex running around with the book of destiny. she rises to her fullest height.
āwho are you?ā she asks demandingly her fists shaking with FURY.Ā

āKaraās mother,ā she stated. She would have known by their resemblance alone.Ā āWhy are you here?ā she asked, her accent thick. Not trying to hide it. The DEO had her in an isolated room. She was surprised they had let anyone in.
