New Alsta Watch
Alsta Jaws Watch
50 years "JAWS " tribute... 1975 - 2025 marks half-a-century since the movie Jaws aired in cinemas in the USA. The movie had two test screenings in Dallas (March 1975) but the most amazing premiere was at a small cinema theatre in Oak Bluffs near Edgartown (Amity) on Martha's Vineyard, the island of the Jaw-dropping Filming Locations. June 20. 1975 was the day when hundreds of eager islanders saw the "Island Premiere" of Steven Spielberg's mega-blockbuster "Jaws"! Movie fans in Europe had to wait until December 1975... In the movie, Marine biologist Hooper was played by actor Richard Dreyfuss, wearing an Alsta Nautoscaph superautomatic dive watch. A great toolwatch choice and 50 years later, Alsta brings us the 2025 Superautomatic. (Photos: Universal Pictures/Alsta watches)

The Watch Jaws, the Alsta Nautoscaph, Has been Re-Released
If you haven’t seen Jaws, go watch it and then come back to this post. It’ll be here when you’re done.
If you have seen Jaws, you’ll know that among the many cool things about Richard Dreyfuss’s character, oceanographer Matt Hooper, is the watch he wears to brave not only the depths of the ocean, but also the most murderous fish ever to appear in literature or on film.

That timepiece, an Alsta Nautoscaph, was a pretty sharp example of of ‘70s era diving watches: in addition to the requisite rotating steel bezel and a dark face with chunky glowing indices (necessary if you’re going to know how long you’ve been underwater) it also had a pretty cool bracelet, punctuated with oval openings. You can still find the originals on eBay: one sold just yesterday for $2,247.00.

But if you don’t want to waste time waiting around for a vintage model (or pay that much), fret not: Alsta recently gave the Nautoscaph a modern update, and it’s selling a limited edition of 300 of the automatic watches for $879 on Huckberry. Like its predecessor, the Nautoscaph II has a dark face, big Super-LumiNova indices, and is water resistant to just shy of 1,000 feet. Unlike the original, it has a slightly more streamlined case, and it comes mounted on a Milanese loop, which makes it super easy to adjust.
And while it’s made to be in the water, with a relatively smaller 40mm case size, it wouldn’t be out of place in your day-to-day life. Here’s hoping your day-to-day life doesn’t involve any shark attacks.
