You know what drive me NUTS? The fact we don’t have a better word for “of or pertaining to the United States” than “American.” I can get away with dubbing in Estadounidense around my Latin@ friends (and those others who accustomed to my random linguistic switches by now), or  “United-states-ian” among the casual-and-woke crowd... But in a paper? or a classroom? (Or in french?: “Vous êtes américaine?” “Non! Putain, Je suis Estadounidense!” “...quoi?”) The only way not to sound like a neocolonialist asshat who forgot about Canada, Mexico, and the 32 other countries “American” describes is to be SUPER clunky. And it makes me mad.
