I use Alpine btw
Alpine Linux
Alpine. So quiet, so tranquil.
Just appreciation for this because one time I was completely overwhelmed with work I had to do so I just booted up my alpine vm (forced to use winblows for work) and stared at an empty terminal screen and ran random ass commands in my 20 minute break
You mentioned wanting asks so here's one! How's Alpine been working for you lately? You posted about Pipewire with Wayland being improved, but are there any other improvements/issues you've seen? I used to use Alpine but switched in favor of Fedora for more "it just works". I miss the simplicity of it so I'm considering switching back
omg yayyy ty for asking!
it's pretty awesome and i think it'll only become better as a desktop distro now that openrc's support for user-level services is stable/more canonized, which is how alpine recommends launching pipewire now. looking at the edge branch of the community repo, it looks like alpine packages will ship with with init scripts in a more systemd fashion going forward. i still launch non-system services like syncthing and mpd-mpris through my .profile or sway config instead of tangling with writing my own init scripts, though.
a cool thing for zsh users is the default /etc/zsh/zshenv anticipates you might want to set ZDOTDIR at ~/.config/zsh, which is usually one extra step i take installing other distros or alpine before this (<3.21).
and it's just!! so fast and my battery life on my thinkpad is so good. big fan of apk. my annoyances are minor and mostly to do with my neovim config, e.g. i have to install individual language tree-sitter-* packages from apk and musl versions of some LSPs, which may not even exist or be unsupported (luals......)
