Watching Alpha (2018) sucks as a chronicles of ancient darkness fan because I keep thinking about the books all the time!
Like there are scenes that could fit perfectly in the coad movie at least from the vibe:
Keda carrying the wolf, the wolf saving him from freezing to death...
Whole Film in general gives me so much coad vibes but never quite right.
Like it’s not a bad movie at all (at least they used a real dog unlike Call of the Wild...), but I wasn’t able to enjoy it because I kept imagine it in the coad universe lol

Reasons I Love Alpha (2018): Framing
honestly the dog part of Alpha wasn’t even the best part? it was a good part YES but not the best. because here we had a sincere depiction of middle to upper Paleolithic life as a sensitive, gentle son of the tribe’s chief. we got to see a film depiction of the intricacies of a culture that has never been portrayed well. amazing cinematography with an accompanied score that perfectly depicted how alien their world would be to us.
a masculine chief who is just as nurturing to his son (maybe even more) than the mother.
a female shaman who had more powers over the tribe than the chief himself.
a female hunter that traveled with the men, symbolizing the flexibility of gender roles that would’ve been in those societies and debunking the polarized gender chores we tend to reflect on them to adhere to our current binary cultures.
a gentle, soft spoken, and sweet boy who all (but one!) try to protect and try to cultivate his soft personality, never getting angry with him but amused or, at worst, exasperated
that soft pretty boy ending up taking the journey of a lifetime and saving his and an animals life purely because he « leads with his heart »
