BENEFIT: Three reasons why we should ask for good dreams
1โฃ. Good dreams are a glad tiding
Abลซ Hurairah radhiyallฤhu 'anhu reported that Allฤh's Messenger (๏ทบ) said: โDreams are of three types: one good dream which is a form of glad tiding from Allฤh; the evil dream which causes pain is from Shaytaan; and the third one is a suggestion of one's own mind...โ [Muslim 2263]
2โฃ. It was a practice of the salaf to ask for good dreams
Ai'sha radhiyallahu 'anha would supplicate before going to sleep saying:
((ุงููููููู ูู ุฅููููู ุฃุณุฃูููู ุฑูุคููุง ุตูุงููุญูุฉูุ ุตูุงุฏูููุฉู ุบูููุฑู ูุงุฐูุจูุฉูุ ูุงููุนูุฉู ุบูููุฑู ุถูุงุฑููุฉู))
"O Allah, I ask You for a good dream; one that is true and not false; one which is beneficial and not harmful."
[Reported by An-Nawawi in Adhkaar; Al-hafidh Ibn Hajar stated in 'Nataa'ij Al-Afkaar' that it is 'Sahih' to A'isha (Mawqoof)]
3โฃ. Seeing a good dream is an indication of one's righteousness
Ibn 'Umar radhiyallahu 'anhu narrated: "In the lifetime of the Prophet (๏ทบ) whosoever saw a dream would narrate it to Allah's Messenger (๏ทบ). I had a wish of seeing a dream to narrate it to Allah's Messenger (๏ทบ) I was a grown up boy and used to sleep in the masjid in the lifetime of the Prophet. I saw in the dream that two angels caught hold of me and took me to the Fire which was built all round like a built well and had two poles in it and the people in it were known to me. I started saying, "I seek refuge with Allah from the Fire." Then I met another angel who told me not to be afraid. I narrated the dream to Hafsa who told it to Allah's Messenger (๏ทบ). The Prophet said, "Abdullah is a good man. I wish he prayed Tahajjud." After that `Abdullah (Ibn Umar) used to sleep but a little at night." [Reported by Bukhari & Muslim]
Ibn Hajar commented in Fat-hul Bari, saying: "his saying, 'I had a wish of seeing a dream,' and in another report he (Ibn 'Umar) added:
"ูููุช ูู ููุณู: ูู ูุงู ููู ุฎูุฑ ูุฑุฃูุช ู ุซู ู ุง ูุฑู ูุคูุงุก"
'I said to myself, if there was any good in you, you would have also seen what these people see,' (Ibn Hajar said) what is taken from this is, righteous dreams indicate the goodness of those who see them."
