Icy Dawn by Mike Lee Via Flickr: I captured this image on a chilly January morning at Lake Almanor in Plumas County, California, USA, near the wonderful little town of Chester. I loved the vibrant tones in the sky that were reflected off both the small patch of open water and the surrounding ice. Lake Almanor was flooded when the 130 foot tall earthen dam was completed in 1914 by the Great Western Power Company. The lake gets its name from Great Western’s President Guy Earl’s three dauthers, Alice, Martha, and Eleanor. Currently used by the Pacific Gas and Electric Company for hydroelectric generation, it is a very popular destination for scores of recreational users.
