The Good News and the Very Bad News about the Zombie Apocalypse

Okay, first the good news. Zombies of the “Walking Dead” type never have existed and never will. Bodies are delicate machines and cannot work with their parts degraded or missing.
Okay, now the very bad news. Zombies are race memories. Not of the living dead but of the sick and dying. In times of plague and famine, these always go together, many diseased human beings, starving and desperate have roamed the streets searching for a meal, any meal, including living human flesh. Imagine the diseased, bandaged with sores and open wounds lurching through the streets searching for a meal to keep them alive one more miserable day.
This has occurred many times in our past. It happened in Ukraine in the 1930s where first the animals were eaten, then children, then adults. It has happened so many times in our past that we remember it in our DNA.
Our modern world is only about 90 days away from starvation at any given time. If there was a breakdown in power and transportation no new food would be made or transported. Existing local stocks would quickly diminish. Then it would be cannibalism or death. At first the naturally dead would be eaten. This would break down the barrier of taboo. Then the weak. Finally the strong would band together and eat those who they could defeat in a violent struggle.
This is NOT fantasy. This has happened many times before.
