Chapter 11: Butter

James’s head popped out from behind his paper, glasses at the tip of his nose. He looked like someone’s crazy grandfather. “Morning, Lily! It’s so great to have another person who enjoys the morning join us!”

Lily opened her mouth to negate James’s assertion that she was a morning person.

“Don’t get him started,” interrupted Sirius, looking like he wanted to be anywhere but here. “He’s one of those chipper morning people.”

“Knew there was something wrong with him,” Lily said before she thought about it. A blush started forming on her face, but before she could apologize - Sirius began laughing, and James gave a dramatic sigh and went back to his paper.

“I’m only up early so I can get my class schedule,” added Lily. She didn’t want them to think this would be a normal occurrence.

“This one woke me up, with the sun, and I don’t think it was for the class schedule,” Sirius complained, pointing at James, whose face was still hidden by the newspaper.
