So glad he likes it 🥺🤲🏾
He actually signed this the day before at Red Bull’s signing session. But I didn’t take the new one with me at that time. So I gave it to him on the sprint day.
rossi's rusty Piaggio Ape shitbox vs alex's beautiful blue alexneta
I feel like I have to at least mention that I really like the wordplay of vespa (Italian for wasp) -> ape (little bee) for the naming convention fiasco that happened early on in the development of this class of motorised trike... or micro-van(?). Piaggio is the manufacturer of Vespas and later designed the Ape, which Valentino liked to race with friends during his childhood in Tavullia! (Cute videos to check out: 1 and 2! In the videos, it appears Valentino is racing in a blue TM P50, though I'm not 100% certain of the model. I'm guessing he was on a first-name basis with the local police based on his driving style.) Anyway! It was initially gonna be called a Vespa-car as an evolution of the company's Vespa scooter; however, they settled on a cuter name: ape, aka the little bee! Apparently, you can still visit the modified RossiApe in Tavullia :)
If Marc is a red ant, Valentino reminds me of a bee. Not quite possessing the untouchable elegance or pointed rage of a wasp. Instead, he's fluffier. Buzzy. Cute. Garish yellow and black colours. But still, winged. Sometimes united with a rowdy hive (VR46 fans omfg) but mostly solitary on-grid, where most of his relationships with fellow riders are defined by tension, animosity and rivalry. This is, of course, apart from his own little worker bees, who worship him. Sometimes, (if you're lucky) he even makes honey. But he also has a sharp sting that he threatens to use on anyone who tries to come a little too close, usually at the expense of his own well-being... (and perhaps his would-be friendships, too)
Okay, time for a little bonus 4693! In 2019, Marc inaugurated an 'insect hotel' at the Catalunya circuit, and yes, these habitat interventions are usually home to solitary bees... Maybe the little red ant wanted to extend an olive branch to a little yellow bee as his way of saying 'I can keep you safe' :)
The 'Alexneta', a Volkswagen T1 van, became Álex Márquez's lucky charm in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship. The Gresini rider first appeared with it at the Jerez GP, where he coincidentally achieved his first victory in the premier class.
The myth became a reality for '73'. Therefore, his brother Marc wanted to show his appreciation and gifted it to him permanently during their celebration in Cervera.
"I had the idea, and it's yours to keep," he announced. "Since the car can't win, let the 'Alexneta' win," he added, referring to the fact that Álex couldn't beat him for a single pole position in 2025.
about this
Talking to @rise-ha made me realize that many people might not know this because it happened at the Cervera party, and I don't know if it was translated or published by any international media outlet, but there you have it.
Also, since not many people know about the Alexneta reference on Alex's merch, I hope this clears things up <3
Vaaaaaaamos!
