Lighter. Cigarette. These were the first words in Emmeline’s mind as she stepped a foot out of the Riddle. She wasn’t able to even think straight anymore.
Ten minutes alter, she found herself walking towards Unspeakable. Something she had almost never done, knowing who ran the place, who she might stumblr upon. But today she went, because she wanted to see Alecto, more than she wanted to avoid Augustus -- especially since she wasn’t supposed to do that anymore.
Alecto and Emmeline weren’t quite best friends, but not quite acquaintances either. When they were teenagers and both had dramatically different lives, they’d pass by eachother, never really finding anything to talk about but trying anyway. Now years later, they had evolved into something else entirely, an easy and undemanding friendship, which was so rare in Knockturn you tended to forget it was possible. And tonight, Emmeline desperately needed some alcohol and good old girls’ night. Alecto seemed like the person to go to for that: talking with her didn’t have to be important, meaningful, life-changing. Emmeline needed some not live-changing stuff for once.
She didn’t know yet if she was going to tell the girl about Augustus. It was still a tense subject, and the brunette had noticed her friend tended to avoid it altogether in her presence, probably not to hurt her. Or something. Even if they didn’t often talk about the hard stuff, that didn’t keep them from looking out for one another.
Emmeline got inside the club, and thankfully Alecto was on her own, probably for the only second of the evening. Everyone always wanted a piece of this girl. So Emmeline came up from dehind her, catching her elbow with both hands.
“Oh, girl. Please tell me you don’t have the late shift tonight. I am in severe need of this wonderful combination that you and alcohol make.” She added a small grin at the end, hopefully looking cute and not psychotic.
