really interesting (/derogatory) to see how the marketing and fandom around the show is so heavily focused on trashing the books as something that needs to be “fixed” or “upgraded” when from the get-go, they have missed so many foundational elements of pjo’s story in service of making changes that are nonsensical at best and retcons at worst for change’s sake, either for rick’s ego (eg supplanting the movies) or as fanservice pandering (shoehorning p&a too early).

I know I’ve posted about this before but it’s crazy how in American culture pretty much all alcohol is insanely gendered (beer and most (but not all) straight liquor is for men, wine and most (but not all) cocktails are for women), but in Vorinism aka Gender Roles The Religion where men and women aren’t even allowed to eat the same things for dinner, all the alcohol is seemingly completely gender neutral. What’s up with that

Kevin Steinbach is the official english translator for the apothecary diary light novels. he is also possibly the number one jinshi hater and maomao misunderstander.

his work at its best is ...ok and at its worst changes what the original author (hyuuganatsu) meant fully and completely. his goal doesn't seem to be Accurate Translation but more like,,, a step by step process on making maomao a uwu cutie bean who never did anything wrong who. also has no emotions. rather than someone who just finds emotions difficult to process

maomao multiple times goes "I'm dirty" when jinshi is being clingy. this statement is Loaded. he changes it to you're dirty???? SHE WOULD LITERALLY NOT FUCKING SAY THAT

light novel 13's epilogue: he took off the condom (badly). he ignored maomao's request of "but what if we just did hand stuff lolololol"

aside from that he just kind of just. eats all the symbolism. and the buddhism (i would like to very kindly push you towards @meowmeowsabortionclinic's posts). all in all its like he was MADE to NOT TRANSLATE this particular series in particular.

it's really really fucking tragic also bc natsu's writing is actually goated. so fun and poetic and blue curtains. once in a while she Really wants you to understand something so she'll hit you on the head with a brick about it. kevin unfortunately doesn't have a head.
