When my Pseudotumor cerebri or idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) started, my life absolutely changed because in a heartbeat I could drop into a completely non-functioning lump of human pain.
People like to talk about hope, you have to have hope, maybe things will get better… but with chronic illness that's not really a thing … we know we're only going to get worse over time.
Losing hope is a huge shock to the system... losing faith in tomorrow... losing faith in being happy, healthy, and functional. So I've simply come to embrace the now. The little moments when I do feel ok-ish, when I can accomplish SOMETHING, and be a bit normal. And when my brain attacks, I just shut down and wait it out and remember that no matter how bad things are, it'll change. Maybe not for the better, but it WILL change. And I can handle change. We'll deal with that when it happens, and we'll deal with this as it is happening, and that's just how things have to be.
