After Kuroda's internal investigations, he uncovered the mole within PSB who was working with the organization - the man who sold Scotch out. And then, the mole proceeds to negotiate for his freedom - or at least a much reduced sentence - by claiming he has information that the Zero department would be interested. When the information manages to intrigue quite a few higher ups, Furuya has only a limited amount of time to stop them from reaching a deal with the mole.

Furuya feels as if he's been split into two different pieces of himself. One part raging and screaming for blood and revenge, another part deathly calm, thoughts sharp and clear and analyzing several things at once, brain functioning at high speed.

Just right now, Chief Kuroda informed Furuya that after some internal investigations, he has finally found the mole within MPD  who was working for the organization. Right in the PSB, in fact. One of the administrative personnel by the name of Nishida, who was trying to find a quick way to pay off a debt a couple of years ago, around which time the organization was trying to plant a few double agents inside the MPD. Two sides quickly struck a deal, and it started with editing out some information for the organization on internal police files or tactically delaying certain investigations to give the organization enough time to dispose evidence on some cases, in exchange for some quick cash. It was all relatively minor stuff, but when Nishida stumbled upon information about the PSB having a spy right within the organization, he took that chance to bargain for more money.

During the time Nishida was working for the organization, there were a few times he felt like the thing he helped clean up with was something huge, and he secretly kept personalized records for himself, regularly reviewing for any patterns or hints, just in case it comes handy someday. The plan was originally to use it as blackmail material if he ever needs to. From these accumulated information, he felt certain he has enough information on his hand to prove certain companies and some politicians were involved with the organization - sometimes it's helping out the organization on a few matters, sometimes it's outsourcing the dirty work to the organization.

And while now he probably cannot use those information for blackmail purpose, he is now using that as a bargaining chip for his freedom, or at least a much reduced sentence.
