But!! The first step in "breaking in" is always attachment. Give them something they've never had without you, cultivate that dependence until it becomes all-consuming... and then threaten to take it away.
For Sommers, I feel like warping his sadism/view on "love" is an interesting way to go. He seems like he could very easily fall down the masochism path if prodded in the right direction, and wouldn't that be a delightful thing to grow a dependence around? You're the only one who hurts him right, who lets him feel true love— how could he not be horrifically attached? When he starts valuing your attention more than his dignity, you know you're getting somewhere.
For Kaidou, as I explored in a certain fic a while ago, I think that what forms that attachment for him is a sense of humanity. Being treated like a person instead of a weapon or a beast, having a safe place to return to that doesn't come with expectations of violence or danger. He's never experienced soft things, so they have an effect on him that he's not prepared to resist. He's weak to gentleness because it's so entirely unfamiliar, and like with his dependency on alcohol, things that feel good are hard to resist. He has that addictive sort of personality where any indulgence can easily become A Problem...
