Summer 3 years laterâŚ
The wind tickles my face as I sit at the edge of the dock and wait. The sun lowers over the horizon casting a beautiful glow of orange and pink across the breaking waves. Itâs hard to think that I used to hate coming to our familyâs beach house every summer, but I guess thatâs how love can change things.
I shouldnât love him but I do. Weâre like Romeo and Juliet, an ill-fated relationship that can never be. He lives in the water. I live on the land. Unless one of us becomes like the other, there is no future for us. Not really. And yet, I canât turn it off. The more time we spend together, the more attached I become to him. I canât let him go, but I canât hold onto him.
A sigh leaves my lips and mingles with the wind that blows with the rising of the moon.

Come On In Part 1
I plan to finish the other AU still, but sometimes a change is nice. Ya feel?
The door burst open but was caught before it could slam against the wall and walk up the whole house. The figure clad in black, standing ahead of three others, signaled one to take care of the security system that was sure to start blaring at any moment. They waited at the door, quiet and watching to make sure the alarm was disabled before they got to work.Â
The thumbs up was given and the small group moved in. Everything was going according to plan so far. The leader pointed in three different directions silently and the group split, moving into different rooms with black bags in tow, ready to load. Theyâd been planning this house for weeks now, studying the inhabitantsâ schedules and habits, poking around the place when it was empty for the day to see where to hit. The plan was perfect, the holes filled in, everything was set.Â
Except when it was finally time to put it into action. The family was supposed to be gone, on vacation at an island resort. One had stayed behind though, an older child. Itâd been a tough decision, but in the end, the leader had decided it best to stick with the plan and just avoid the occupied room. They could do this. They were skilled, quiet, sneaky thieves. Theyâd made harder hits and succeeded, they could do this one too.Â
The leader watched as the others disappeared downstairs, and quiet shoes took the stairs, testing carefully to avoid creaks in the old wood. The landing arrived quickly and the door to the master bedroom was opened. There it was, the jewelry box so desperately sought out. Gloved fingers reached out and gingerly opened the lid to the box. Large, beautiful crystals and gems sparkled in the dim moonlight coming in from the nearby window. Necklaces and bracelets and rings clattered softly to the bottom of the black bag.Â
As the first layer was lifted away, the leader froze, captured by the glistening blue heart crystal that was hidden beneath it. The top tray was set down on the nearby dresser and eyes locked back on the treasure. The dark figure was frozen in place, stuck with gaze on nothing but the stone until a hand rose toward the mask that hid the face. Fingers curled around it and pulled it off.
From beneath the thick fabric, long raven colored hair broke free and fell around her shoulders. Her icy blue eyes were no longer shielded and hidden and across them, a moisture that threatened to spill over the milky white lids lined in coal black. Her lip trembled as she picked up the necklace and laced it between her fingers. It sparkled and sang to her, whispering her name sweetly as if they were old friends. She pulled the gem to her chest, clinging to it as her eyes pressed shut.
But a moment later, she was tugged back and into a pair of arms. As one strong limb wrapped around her chest, trapping her own from moving, the other pressed the cool blade of a pocket knife to her neck. Well this was a predicament.Â
âDonât scream,â a voice whispered to her. âDrop your bag, do as I say, and I wonât cut a slit in your neck right now.â
She could feel his heart pounding against her back as her shoulder blade dug into his chest. She could fight him, but he felt strong and with a knife in hand, it was too dangerous to try. So, she obliged, silently dropping the bag but still clinging to the necklace.Â
âGood. Now, weâre going to walk out to the landing. Youâre going to call off your crew and tell them to abandon the things they were taking. Got it?â
A heavy sigh eased out of her lips. This was shit. How had he known they were here? She didnât want to give up, it wasnât in her nature, but the longer she stayed silent, the more she felt the blade press into her neck.
âFine,â she bit back. âBut they get to walk away.â
He was silent, but a moment later, they were awkwardly walking out of the bedroom and into the hall. They stayed away from the railing, but she could see the front door. Her lips parted, but she didnât speak, feeling what felt like a trickle of blood run down her neck.
âI canât call them off with your knife digging into my skin,â she hissed between clenched teeth. The blade let up just slightly, but she could still feel it lingering, still to risky to run. âEy!â She hollered from the second floor. âGet out! Leave the shit and save your skin!â
She tried to put a sense of urgency in her voice, knowing if she said it calmly they would have never walked away. They would have fought to help her, but she would never forgive herself if her friends were busted.Â
The front door flung open and one after the other fled. Lids pressed over her eyes in something of relief when the last had left. Would they come back for her? Would they even notice she wasnât behind them? She was their leader. Surely they would come back, surely.Â
âThere. Happy? Nothingâs gone. No harm, no foul. So, what are you going to do with me then?â
He didnât speak. Instead, he half carried, half shoved her as they walked down the stairs and the front door slammed shut. In the entry room, she felt herself freed from his grasp and the knife disappear. This was it, this was her chance to escape. Just as she reached out a foot to run, something hard and heavy slammed into her head, sending her into a world of pitch black.
