tbh rein is well aware of it. i personally believe while overwatch was corrupt, it wasn’t saturated with bad intentions and and all around fucked up thing. it had good intentions and did its job, people built a fucking statue of jack morrison and adored overwatch for a long time. they were amazing, but they made mistakes. bad shit happened. not everyone was there for good intent. he is diehard in support of overwatch and always will be, but he isn’t an idiot. with many things there is corruption. he was in the army, the crusaders. forces that are there for the better, and it’s undoubted people have spat on him for his work i any three of those organizations. he has seen their justifications and respects them — cuz it’s not wrong. people are against stuff for a reason. war is bad and all that, killing is wrong. he wouldn’t fight and say that isn’t true. there’s corruption and he saw it, but like a force who deals in life or death, he’s come to terms. it’s this sort of understanding that like… there will be corruption and mistakes in their wake. people will tell him and his comrades to do things they shouldn’t do, prices they’ve gotta pay. lives that shouldn’t be lost are going to be lost, and all that can be done is to watch out for the future.

i think that’s another important chunk of his backstory. they say he was a big advocate in overwatch for doing good and keeping it in check, right in his bio. i do think he saw the corruption very well and did his damnedest to keep them clean. he saw what’s happened in the past, mistake or intent, and if it was immoral, he was like fuck that shit in particular, we can’t do that again. he did what anyone should do in a case of right or wrong: he made his voice known and disagreed. sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t.

Long legs hung haphazardly across the arm of what 2D thought was fair to claim as the ugliest and most uncomfortably couches in the world. The warm dim light of the room made it difficult to make out much of his surroundings without his glasses other than hazy shadows and general shapes of furniture. So, he decided to focus on closer objects, i.e. his fingers, which he wiggled in front of his face before running them through deep azure hair and resting them there.

To be completely honest, the situation vaguely reminded him of a scene from popular historical drama movie, Titanic. Except with a lot less sexual tension, and a lot more awkward strangers posing for each other. Also no sinking boats. No boats at all for that matter.

NIGHTMARES.

        so for this topic , let's start off with a very short ( so this doesn't come out as a diff hc ) run - down on her sleeping schedule. after going through a decade of cryopreservation , mei has a lot of trouble sleeping for long periods of time. the whole '  being unconscious ' thing subconsciously freaks the hell out of her without her actually making that connection so she only sleeps for 3-4 hours at a time. because of this , mei generally naps throughout the day if she's able to.

        to continue on with nightmares ——— mei's one of those people who usually doesn't remember her dreams. she goes to bed , wakes up a few hours later & carries on with her day. occasionally , though , she does have a nightmare or two. usually the dreams she remembers are the bad ones. her nightmares can be as vague as a feeling of suffocating or uneasiness from isolation or as specific as what happened to her at ecopoint : antarctica. her guilt for what could've been done on her end does come up often whenever she does have nightmares & that usually keeps her up longer than she should.

CRYOGENICS  &  CIRCULATION.

        being in cryopreservation in general is very risky & dangerous with our current knowledge. while i do think cryogenics has advanced considerably at the time overwatch takes place , its a very iffy area and there's still a lot of issues with the practice both ethically & physically. muscle & tissue tearing / cracking , dehydrated cells , and things like that are all very common when freezing just organs.

        for mei , cryopreservation did affect her a lot health - wise  ———  CIRCULATION in particular. not counting the fact that she hadn't moved her legs in 10 years , mei had a lot of trouble walking for at least a few months because her blood wasn't getting to her feet quick enough. you could expect lots of tripping & stumbling from her until she began to recover and adjust. for her hands , she had a lot of trouble having feeling in her fingers. things were either grabbed with too much pressure or too little , making her crush things like paper cups while dropping glass ones.
