I did not know the story of Franz Jägerstätter. He was a man who when faced with the evil of Hitler said “No” when everyone around him was saying “Yes”. What courage. This film is thought provoking, beautiful shot, and deeply sad. August Diehl was truly powerful in his performance. Thank you Terrence Malick for bringing this story to our attention.

I don’t usually make film recommendations . . . But after seeing A Hidden Life, I could not NOT do it. This is the best movie I have seen in so very long. It is perfect. The cinematography is sublime, breathtaking in the vast beauty of a village tucked above the clouds in the mountains of Austria. There are simple, solitary moments when the camera hesitates on tender scene after tender scene…cinematic still life that crack open your heart & emotions. Terrence Malick’s directorial genius is evident with the same gritty beauty as in At Heaven’s Gate. He is a thinker & the real-life protagonist of this film seem to beat with the same heart, the same love, the same courage, the same respect for life & with a quiet heroism. This film rocked me to my core in so many ways. The acting is incredible, as if the actors channeled the characters, who lived on real life. This is a true story. One our world should see. Maybe that one act could change the world.
