Can I kiss you?
"âŚCan you..can you kiss me?â For a minute sheâs momentarily incredulous. Peter didnât exactly shy away from the times when he wanted to kiss her. But then, those were days when times were a bit simpler and he was a bit more reckless, she a little more innocent. Itâs not the same so much now, but to hear him ask doesnât remind her of that change. Instead it only makes her laugh, something husky and real from the back of her throat.Â
"âŚWell! How..how nice of you to ask, Peter.â Sheâs amused, it can be told by the crinkling of her green eyes, the way her lips spread in a pleased and altogether shy little smile. Maybe because itâs endearingly precious, that he would ask, in that voice thatâs really more fumbling and gentle than youâd think Spider-Manâs civilian voice would be. But this is her boyfriend at the core, doe-eyed, a little bit fumbling, hand scratching his cheek with an equally shy little smile.Â
"I think that would be okay." Gwen talks conversationally, as if theyâre discussing the weather all the while she smooths a strand of blonde hair from her face. Her cheeks are flushed pleasantly and her smile grows a little wider, looking the way she always does when he appears, suited or bedraggled, into the center of her universe.Â
Like sheâs meeting him all over again, like sheâs giving him the first look of love she ever did and theyâre newly dating, except theyâre not and she doesnât move. Gwen just waits and smiles at him, every little twitch of her mouth going up an echoing refrain of three words.
I love you.
