It’s in the way Mycroft will always find a way to touch John, no matter where they are or what they’re doing. It’s not always sexual either, a hand on his thigh during a meeting. Their knees touching while they’re out to dinner. Tracing shapes on his arm while they’re watching telly. Soft touches before they go to bed at night. Shared kisses as they’re getting ready in the morning, moving around each other in a way that seems chaotic, but it works for them. Using one another as pillows because it’s more comfortable anyway. The way he teases John when they’re at an event and knows he can’t do anything about it with. The way he can turn him on with just small touches and nothing more.

It’s in the way Mycroft trusts John more than anyone else. The way that he can just talk to John about both his positions and John just... accepts him. That he knows John’s only concern is his safety in what he does, but nothing else. Trust is so important to Mycroft and knowing that he can trust John wholeheartedly is... something else. It’s amazing and it only allows him to love John more. While trust isn’t a love language, it is to Mycroft. Especially since his whole life is full of secrets and hiding. And the fact that he doesn’t have to do that with John is a very good thing to him.

It’s in the good morning & good night kisses. The soft pecks in the morning that they swear isn’t going to go anywhere, but always does. It allows leads somewhere. And they make no move to stop the pattern. They like the pattern. And if it causes them to be late some mornings, well, who’s going to say anything? And the even softer pecks before bed that never lead anywhere... well, mostly. But are soft and slow and almost lazy. But it’s not about sex but instead to be thankful that they’re going to bed together and will wake up next to each other.

It’s in the way Mycroft brings him along to Riley’s grave on the anniversary of her death. He doesn’t tell John where they’re going, but tells him it’s important. He introduces John to her as Myc cleans off her gravestone. Tells her how important John is to him and how much he adores him. And wishes she was still around to bust his balls, like he knew she would. That she would like him, might even get along with him. It’s in the way he introduces John to Riley’s parents, who’s happy to see him happy again. It’s in the way Mycroft mutters a very quiet ‘thank you’ and John doesn’t ask what for and instead let’s them drive back in silence.
