“What do you mean there’s an assignment in California?”

“I mean exactly what I just said. We’ve got a brief assignment out there - your friends have been reported as a lot visible more out there. I think something’s going on.” Houdini shrugged, swiping on the iPad in her hands.

“Wait, back up. My friends?”

“The Fresno Nightcrawlers. Your friends and namesake? I’ve been seeing some reports come through - lots of people posting about how they’re seeing something, anyway. Maybe they’re just as excited about the My Chemical Romance reunion concert as everyone else?” There was a mischievous glint in Houdini’s eye at the mention of the concert. She all but shoved the tablet at Sylva, which had loaded up the “FresnoNightcrawlers” hashtag on Instagram so she could see for herself. “Pack your usual! I figured if everything’s good, we can find something to do out there. I’ve got my kit if you want to get fancy. Think of it like a Cryptid Wellness Check!”

A few hours later and they had touched down in California and were making their way up towards Fresno from Los Angeles.

“Why didn’t we just get there directly?” Sylva asked, “why’d we stop here if our focus is on a Cryptid Wellness Check?”

Lauren laughed. “I’ve got a few things here we should check out first. Technical Officer Banshee pointed me in the direction of some possible shape-shifter stuff to check in on. Said the next few days - tomorrow night, more specifically - LA was going to see a ton of shifters in town. I figured I’d make sure everything was alright before we went up to Fresno.”

There was a pause as Lauren unloaded the makeup kit from her bag onto the desk in the hotel room.

Tomorrow - Friday was supposed to be the night of the My Chemical Romance reunion concert...

“Yes, if you’re thinking about it, we’re going. Their crowd - including us - are exactly the kind of people who fit the bill for many, many different things. We’ll just be there to make sure everything goes smoothly for the massive crowd. I’m sure it will, anyway,” Lauren shrugged, “but I wasn’t about to say no to witnessing The Return. Besides, Saturday afternoon we’ll drive up and take care of everything else after having the time of our lives at this concert, making sure no one gets so emotionally overwhelmed they turn into a black cat!”

Sylva blinked - everything was happening so fast? Wellness checks, a concert - overwhelmed shapeshifters?

Lauren took the pause and grinned, digging out a small bag of lipstick. “Pick a color for tomorrow night and I’ll coordinate everything else. Maybe you can fill me in on the Nightcrawlers more than the file does - or the memes. Are they really just pants?”

Raziel:  Baked goods, all the comments are “drop the recipe pls!!!”, Positive Mental Attitude, aesthetics with hopeful quotes, selfies in the bar light, lots of cocktail pictures with unintelligible text.  Live streams of really difficult decorating techniques.

 Cherub:  Coffee and Cafe aesthetics, selfies with all of the hats and scarves and coats that she steals from everyone, agents in recovery with her giving them a thumbs up, study blog, outfits for days with links to the sites.

Rougarou:  NOLA aesthetics, messy morning selfies with Elfin, voodoo information, safe house photos, real estate spots and haughty neighborhoods for future stops, gardens and flowers, always posts about the power of love and other bullshit.

Annabelle:  Candy and sweets, awkward selfies, photos of Drake doing dumb shit, live streams of him doing parkour, also live streams of just the hallway at night when she has an episode, all the animals around roanoke, jewelry.

Sentinel:  Live streams of him talking about how great the good old days were, fitness advice, obnoxious gym selfies, antique stores, a bit of Southern gentleman fashion with a Hipster twist, beard and hair products, random pictures of shit he accidentally broke.

Zed:  LGBTQ+ solidarity, mostly pictures of Roxy doing cute things or being sleepy, borzoi’s and poodles, guns and sniper rifle accessories, lots of memes, obnoxious self deprecating quotes, hair dye, suits, selfies with the Kingsman, live streams of annoying Whiskey.

Nova:  Crazed ranting live streams about how great space is, posts about how great Charlie is for the days he feels extra bad, parody make up tutorials, pictures of all the places she’s fallen asleep, leaked government files, crazy hair, bionics.

JD:  LGBTQ+ positivity and parades with Chimera, a place to dump about his memories, blurry pictures of polaroids he managed to dig up, selfies with Succubus and dad jokes, glorious breakfasts, woods and cryptids, pictures of all the places he’s woken up, broken bottles.

Judas:  Doesnt have an Instagram but theres an account where people post all of the really cringy and awkward photos they can find of him.
