Thanks to the much appreciated help of some great friends Agent Formaldehyde got his new classy coat.
Here’s some pics of him showing it off, lurking in the darkness where he belongs.
"Dear person I hate", Formaldehyde
Dear person I hate,
Come out of the mirror face me somedayyou are a cowardhiding behind a façade of melancholyand indifference.
Rarely do I recognize youyour pitch black complexiondry, desiccated skinveins sluggishly filledwith more nanites than blood.
You could build a village withthe bones of men you have killedas the decades slipped pastyou stopped seeing their facesand focused on the pulse.
One dayI will walk alongside thema mark, a pulse, a targetwill you be there?waiting there for me?
Dear person I had a crush on (for Mal?)
Dearest Eka,
I have spent some time toiling in ruminating reminiscence asof late and for a moment my mind was mired in the memories of the both of us,back when we were but babes.
Such fast friends we were! You, a young gentle girl and I,the foreign-feeling awkward adolescent almost alien to that region of our oldworld, despite my local birth and upbringing.
You, who would extend the hand of heartfelt friendship to meand render us inseparable. Perhaps, not so silly that this youth eventuallyentertained a fixation for you, a childlike crush, but found only a forlornfeeling when such sentiments were rapidly rebuked. I understand why now, ofcourse, but as I look back on that warm-blooded innocence I can only do so withan easily embarrassed smile.
I was… unkind to you many long years later after what feltlike endless eons drifting in dead darkness, when the warmth at last left ourveins and contagion coalesced in its place. It was a terrible time for manymordesh and I did not deal with it well. I may not have shown it enough inthose tiring times, but I was happy to see you again. I believe… before I foundNexus and the aurin whom I now always adore, it was Ekaterine who kept my mordeshanityfrom drying up and dying.
The chance I could have decayed into a killing machinewithout a heart was very real. I could have become no better than the ravenousI strove to slay, but you and others kept me from that.
So… thank you. I will die someday in that debt.
Fondest affectations,Agent Formaldehyde
Dear past me, from Formaldehyde.
Dear Agent Formaldehyde,
I must regret to inform you that the man you seek is dead.
He was slain and laid to final rest the very moment the mordesh steeped in his shadow removed his black hood for the last time.
But worry not, wretched creature! I am the arbiter and archivist of his will. None knew him better than I.
And yes, you knew an echo of me once too, upon a time.
Yasty is indeed older but her loveliness has never once diminished. She often speaks fondly of you and every so often her tongue slips and calls me by your name instead of mine, and a slight blush will spread across her tanned cheeks. I do not mind it.
We have been married for some years now. Please, I hope you will forgive me for such a betrayal, but I sought only to protect her. To care for the family your passing has left behind.
The contagion has yet to succumb to a cure. I do not mind this as much as I once did, for vitalus is more plentiful now that Nexus has settled somewhat. It is a peace, the first real peace provided to my people since the long, dark night an eternity ago. Even in peacetime Lazarin still searches to this day.
And now, you dead, resting spirit… yes.
You were a fine father.
Yes, you were.
I am not the agent you are. Were. I am merely a simple settler, designing and building houses for families to furnish. This brings me a simple happiness no mere black hood could have conveyed.
I urge you to rest in peace, Mal.
I will take it from here.
Yours in remembrance,Nikolai

Dear Future Me (Formaldehyde)
Dear… myself,
How fares you? Are you alive? This is the question I must querulously mention first.
Is Yasty well? Does she still stay alongside you? And, of course, you cantankerous old coward… have you mustered the courage to marry her yet? I do doubt it, but stranger situations have happened.
Do you walk unburdened with vitalus once more? A sensible sliver of me does understand that even if the contagion is cured that does not necessarily mean a marvelous return to youth and beauty and a body unsoiled by a century of woes, but one can hope. It is a fragile feeling but it bolsters my brethren, keeping us from killing ourselves.
Were you a good father, I wonder?
Does eldest Arnica still share your frown?Does Zajka still yearn to be the silent stalker I am right now?Does Galina still get stuck in high places and cry for her Papa to get her down?My Martina… is she still as lovely as her mother?Has gentle Arbert allowed himself to harden into a man?And Hunny, is she still… herself? Funny enough to even let me laugh?
I hope you have left the Hoods behind. You are not happy there. I know this for a fact.
It is my prayer that you forget this letter; purge it promptly from your mind.
Find it again in the future. Write back to me.
Yours in hope,Agent Formaldehyde

To: Tribbles Firenado
From: Agent Formaldehyde Body: Greetings Tribbles. It would give me great pleasure if you would accept an invitation to my home for dinner. Please RSVP. - Agent Formaldehyde ~~~~~ To: Agent Formaldehyde From: Tribbles Firenado Body: Hey Mal! Must be a special occassion! I'd be glad to come over for food poisoning. LOL. Just kidding, I promise! About the food poisoning; I will be happy to accept the invitation! Can I bring my sisters along? Invite Yasty and we can make it a party! I'll be sure to bring a few casseroles and desserts as well. You provide the drinks? - Tribs ~~~~~ To: Tribbles Firenado From: Agent Formaldehyde Body: The more the merrier. Tomorrow at 7 pm? - Agent Formaldehyde ~~~~~ To: Agent Formaldehyde From: Tribbles Firenado Body: Sure thing, I'll round up Anaismae and Fiyero by then! See you and Yasty then! - Tribs ~~~~~~ The invitation had come entirely out of the blue, but Tribbles was pleased! She had been visiting his home somewhat uninvited for the past few months... she was his neighbor, but it seemed every time she came over he was never home. She'd tidy, leave some food on the counter, and ocassionally... also a flower or two from her garden. As morose as his house was, a little color didn't hurt. ~~ He had a record of leaving his work at the door. This case unfortunately had slipped in the backdoor and ruined his record. She had contacted him in interim for Yasty, after one of her papers was published for the Academy. It was a typical fanmail request for an autograph and the reply was sent and forgotten until a week later when the file was handed to him. A surveillance job - a determination if she was a threat to the Exiles or if she needed to be eliminated... and anyone helping her. He could have passed it to someone else. What had made him take it? Sympathy for her small family, perhaps. It helped when Tribbles contacted him again about a second autograph. A friendly conversation ensued; she convinced him (somehow) to make him her neighbor. She was very enthusiastic... and huggy. He was wary, of course. Home cooked meals and flowers began showing up, toys were picked up, and papers ended up in the bin where they belonged. It made him wonder if she was looking for something, but all the papers that he left out as dummies were accounted for. He hadn't been sure to be grateful or insulted she had appointed herself his maid. They did seem to be on an opposite schedule; when he was out, she was visiting. So far, he hadn't been able to make a determination on her loyalties since she had been careful to skirt the issue. She could be extremely distracting. The surprise of Tribbles offering to bring her family to the dinner would ease any tension, though he was hesitant to bring Yasty... at least without appraising her of the situation. She was a little upset; considering Tribbles had reign in the house as a neighbor, but agreed to be his backup. He didn't expect any less; he could count on her. Besides, how was he to hide an entire dinner party from her? ~~~~~ "Trifi, you sure it's okay we come?" Fiyero shrank back towards the telepad as she lowered her ears in the gloomy skyplot. "Of course. Mal wouldn't say it was okay if it wasn't!" Tribbles chirped, balancing a bundle of casseroles on her head as she looked back at Anaismae. The bat-eared aurin scowled, shifting the desserts in her arms. Their eyes locked, and Tribbles gave her a large grin, raising her eyebrows comically. "Smile~!" She hissed to Ana as she turned around, heading towards the large home. For once Tribbles wasn't running - leaving that to Fiyero as she dashed ahead to knock on the door. The door opened while they were still walking. Fiyero squeaked, eyes widening as she looked up to Agent Formaldehyde. "Hi!" Her voice was a shrill squeak, a flail surpassed for a wave before she launched herself at his waist and hugged him rather forcefully. "M'Fiyero!" A pat on her head had her releasing him as he smiled down at her. "A pleasure to meet you, I'm Agent Formaldehyde. This is my partner Yasty Silverbush." She didn't even wait for an invitation inside as she launched herself into Yasty's arms with a squeal. "Hi Mal!" Tribbles grinned, offering up the casseroles. "Lil' help?" Her head tilted towards the bat-eared aurin. "This is Anaismae, my sister. You've already met Fiyero at the door. It's nice to see you! Are you well?" Lifting the casseroles from her grasp, she chirped out a thanks before taking half of the desserts from Anaismae. "As well as to be expected. Please, come in." He nodded. "Yasty is inside." "Awesome!" Tribbles hopped happily, falling into step behind him. "Y... Yasty?" Anaismae's eyes became wider as she halted. "Mhm!" Tribbles grinned, showing her canines. She leaned in towards Mal, lowering her voice into a stage whisper. "Ana's a BIG fan." "D-don't..." Anaismae stuttered, blushing a deep crimson as she shuffled forward. "Aww, don't be embarassed, Ana!" Tribbles chirped. "They're normal. Just interact with them like anyone else." An indignant whine came from Anaismae as Tribbles continued to grin, looking up at Mal. "She doesn't, by the way, so I'll apologize for her in advance." Fiyero was still hugging Yasty when the trio walked through the door. "Fiyero, down girl." Tribbles joked, nodding her head at the two in greeting. "Hello, Miss Silverbush." "Please, call me Yasty! I feel like I already know you, Mal has told me so much about you!" Yasty grinned as Fiyero softly growled and squeezed her tighter before finally releasing her grip. "All good things, I promise!" "Dessert first?" Fiyero asked, ears perking forward hopefully as she clasped her hands together. "N...urgh..." Ana murmured softly, before clearing her throat. "Uh.. where? These things?" The words were barely above a whisper, and Mal was certain that if the door wasn't already closed, she would have dashed through it to escape. "Well, I'd hope they're all good things!" Tribbles chirped back. "Anaismae, if you'll follow me?" Mal offered softly. He headed towards the kitchen and without looking back, already knew that she was following him on his heels. They climbed the stairs where the kitchen and dining room lay and set down the meals and desserts on the table. Ana breathed a sigh of relief, running her fingers through the hair covering her eye. "I.. Mm.. I usually leave the socializing to Tribbles and Fiyero. Thank you for inviting us." In contrast with Fiyero's squeaky and Tribbles' slightly growly voices, Ana's was soft, silky, and leaning towards sultry. "It's not necessary to thank me. It's my pleasure to have you here." Mal corrected firmly. Anaismae nodded absently. "I better go get the rest of the desserts before Fi snatches one from Tribs." She murmured, pirouetting gracefully before dashing down the stairs. One thing the intel failed to mention was how quick the Firenadoes could be in evasion. ~~~~~ It was Tribbles that came back up the stairs, snickering to herself as she crossed the doorway to the kitchen, nodding in greeting at Mal. "Hello again! Hope you don't mind, but Ana got abducted by Fiyero and Yasty. Mostly by Fiyero." She shifted the desserts onto the table. "Want help making up the table?" "Certainly. I'm sure you already know where all the utensils are." He smiled, her returning grin showing her canines. "Guilty." To the cabinet she went, getting extra plates and forks to bring back to the table, setting up the plates while he went to fetch the drinks. "Uh, could you not mention that I asked for Yasty's autograph? I mean to give it to Anaismae and Fiyero for their birthday gifts." She asked softly when he returned. "You know their birthdays?" He asked, noting that the Black Hoods intel was disturbingly lacking if they knew that about each other. "Well, kind of, sort of. The day I met them, really." She shrugged. "I confess I've had a long habit of clambering in people's homes without permission, but I never take anything. And Protostar made us neighbors, so... Eh?" She tilted her head. "Weirdo clone dudes, but useful sometimes." "Mm... So how would you like to know me?" "You're an agent of the Black Hoods, right? Could always say that you're monitoring me for being an Exile threat." Tribbles giggled, missing the slight tightening of the grip on the drinks he had. "And why would you be considered a threat?" A neutral tone, not questioning. There was no reason to use force as long as she was cooperating, however unwittingly. "Mm, corrupting Protostar employees? Security threat, I guess? Those Protostar guys do love their plat." Tribbles murmured, her lips pursing. "Is that all? That hardly seems worth the Black Hoods time." Mal intoned sardonically. "Well..." Tribbles shrugged. "Was just a thought." Her ears flattened against her head, leaning towards the stairs. "D'you think we should socialize first or eat, then socialize?" "Let's eat first." He sighed. "Why don't you bring them up?" The moment she had scampered out of sight, his hand went to his forehead and he rubbed his temples. This was going to be a headache to report. Bribing Protostar employees - and for what cause? ~~~~~ The table was set and the vegetarian casseroles divvied on the plates as the company gathered around the table. Fiyero was fidgeting - anxious for the dessert, no doubt. Anaismae kept sneaking glances at Yasty, smitten adoration plain enough even to Yasty, who seemed amused at the idea. Tribbles kept a watchful eye on her sisters, stabbing at the casserole and taking occasional bites. "So, how d'you and Tribbly know each other, Mister Mal?" Fiyero was the one that chirped out the question after being denied dessert for a second time (she had to finish her meal first). Tribbles grinned mischeviously, glancing his way expectantly. "You are all under surveillance and it's my task to determine the threat level you pose." Okay, the look surprise from Yasty would have been enough to make him chuckle if she didn't already know what he said was the bald truth. Fiyero managed a strangled squeak, Anaismae looked at him with cold fear, while Tribbles burst with a laugh. "Wow, didn't know you could sell it so well!" She cackled, leaning back in her seat. Yasty looked at him with confusion; a slight nod of his head and she looked at Tribbles, her mouth drawing into a line. "Tribbles, he's telling the truth." She supplied, a concerned look crossing her face as Tribbles frowned, confusion crossing her face. "I need you to answer truthfully," he spoke gently. "Do you have Dominion sympathies." "Mrrrr..." Tribbles looked down at her plate, moving her food around with her fork as she seemed to be processing the request. "Are you asking as a friend or an Agent?" Anaismae asked softly. "As a friend." Tribbles supplied with a growl. "If it were as an Agent, he wouldn't have involved Yasty, and neither of you would have even known I was gone." The fork clinked to the plate as she turned and focused her grey eyes on him. "Do I have Dominion sympathies? Yes. Do I believe I'm a threat to the Exiles? No, but that isn't for me to determine." Ana's ears were flat against her head, a look of intense displeasure on her face. "I told you, didn't I?" She hissed at Tribbles. "Yes, you did." Tribbles murmured, still looking straight at him. "But I also told you my reasons. They've got civilians just like we do, just trying to make a life here on Nexus. Does it excuse the actions on both sides? No. You can call it retaliation to let you sleep better at night; but it doesn't mean that it's right." "Uh... does this mean we aren't getting dessert?" Fiyero squeaked softly, an annoyed sigh coming from Anaismae. "I doubt the Black Hoods are that mean, Fi." She muttered, rolling her eyes. "But first, your meal." She hissed. "I did!" She yelped shrilly, offering her empty plate as assurance. Delicate fingers brushed aside a bit of Tribbles' hair as she sighed, nodding and breaking eye contact. "You can have dessert... when everyone is finished, Fi." She smiled as Fiyero whined and pouted, sinking in her seat. "Anafi, Trifi!" "... How do you feel about my work with the Black Hoods?" He finally asked. "It's a job. I can't define you by it." Tribbles replied with a smile. "Plus, what it is exactly you do... I don't know." She shrugged. "You could clean out their trash bins for all I know." "Who is Gretna Lycarios." Ana's face twisted in confusion, while Fiyero ducked her head as a blush crossed her face. "A friend. She jumped me in Whitevale. She seemed young and naive. I showed her mercy. I told her she was stupid to blindly follow the Dominion because.. 'Once the Exiles are erradicated, what's to stop them from going after their own, since Cassians are the ones that are the chosen ones.'" Tribbles shrugged. "It's been an uneasy truce, but I haven't seen hide nor hair of her for the last few weeks. I used to send messages through Protostar mail by bribing the post. Lately I haven't been able to do that." "You can do that?!" Fiyero's ears had perked in interest, while Ana's eyes had widened in horror at Tribbles' spiel. "Not anymore." Tribbles muttered under her breath, eyeing Fiyero warily. "How did you find out that you could contact the Dominion through bribery?" Mal took a sip of his water, feeling this was probably the most unusual "I asked and offered money, they took it." Tribbles grinned. "They're a bit like Lopp that way - a neutral party." "What about you, Fiyero? Do you have Dominion sympathies?" "Hey, I thought this was about me?" Tribbles glanced between Mal and Fiyero, who had squeaked and hid her face in her hands. "I only went to the party to find out what they were like! I didn't know it'd get me trouble!" She wailed. "But Mister Jess was nice for a draken and Gretna's nice too, even if we haven't talked with her in a while and no one knew who she was and it was fun! And it was mostly other aurin there, safety in numbers, you know?! And even then there were granok, but I didn't see many mordesh!" "Party?" He questioned, looking at Tribbles. "Ugh!" Anaismae groaned, pushing her plate back. "I've told them that it's a bad idea." "It's not a bad idea. Those that want to peacefully congregate can." Tribbles replied evenly, raising her nose just a teeny bit towards Ana. "What party?" "The beach party." Anaismae supplied. "In Malgrave at the Endless Coast. Happens every seven days or so." "It starts in the evenings and lasts for a few good hours, until everyone gets bored and goes home. I'm surprised the Hoods don't know about it - or at least don't have active members staking it out, considering how high risk contacting Dominion citizens seems to be." Tribbles added. "I haven't been in a few months, but I had planned to drop by to check on Gretna. Like I said, haven't seen her in a few months, and last I knew, she'd been getting threatening mails from the ICI to report for re-education." "Do you really think that she considers you a friend?" "The best I can hope for is what I have - a truce." Tribbles murmured. "Does it guarantee my family's safety? No. Does it guarantee hers? Most assuredly not. If anything, she has more danger since she's alone, as far as I know." "She isn't." Formaldehyde supplied. "She's a part of the Firenado Inquisition, current member count of four." "Two humans, herself, and a mechari. I've been warned." Tribbles grinned. "She suggested the name as a farce. I'm a huge, big bad enemy for them." She chuckled. "That isn't funny, Tribbles." Anaismae countered. "For you and her it may be a joke, but for the others? You don't know how their loyalties lay. And it isn't just your life you're betting with. It's mine and Fiyero's. It isn't the Tribbles Inquisition, it's the FIRENADO Inquisition." "You, Ana, hardly ever go out to Nexus. Fiyero is still putzing in Galeras and has time to toughen up before Whitevale." Tribbles muttered. "The only one that's a massive threat at the moment is Gretna and she already knows Fiyero." "WHAT." The hiss-growl was followed by the scratch of a chair on the floor as it scooted closer to Tribbles. Fiyero was avoiding looking at everyone as her ears drooped, desperately attempting to make herself invisible. "W-we met in Thermoc Hold." Fiero squeaked out. "She was hidin' under the taxi stand." Tribbles patted Fiyero's head, shaking her own as she grinned. "Do you know what she was doing there?" Mal questioned, leaning forward with curiosity. "Lookin' for Tribbles, I think." Fiyero shrugged. "I wasn't really paying attention." She added with a mutter. "It's also been a long time since she met Gretna." Tribbles reiterated forcefully. "She's my only Dominion contact and she is missing, possibly taken by the ICI for the exact reason you're questioning me. And probably not quite as nicely." "What intel do you give her?" He asked. "We talk about housing decor." Tribbles nodded. "Fabkits, plants, walls, all that good stuff." Ana shook her head with disbelief, sighing. "Did you know that the Dominion have a golden tree they can purchase in Wilderrun from their Torine contacts? I'm jealous! I can just imagine what the Hovel would be like with golden trees!" Tribbles smirked, her nose crinkling with laughter. "Housing? That's it." Now it was his turn for disbelief. He didn't doubt that is what she talked about - it was too absurd. He sighed, returning his attention to the meal. This report kept getting more complicated. ~~~~~~ Threat Report: The Firenadoes. Summary: To be kept under surveillance. Tribbles: Mild civilian Dominion sympathies. Contact Gretna Lycarios, Dominion citizen; negligible concern for security leaks. Fiyero: Dominion citizen fascination - draken. Anaismae: n/a
