Greek Myth vs PJO
So I’ve been rereading a bunch of classics for school (Iliad, Odyssey, Orestia, etc.) and at the same time reread all PJO. So I’m just cracking up at the idea of there being ancient laws governing the gods actions on the mortal plane (basically non interference). The gods are just on the battlefield in the Iliad helping and fucking with people as they please. In the Odyssey, Poseidon just fucks with Odysseus because he’s pissed at him for blinding Polyphemus. In the Orestia (the trilogy of plays by Aescolus which describes the events of Agamemnon’s home coming from Troy and the fall out of certain murders) Orestes is told to do certain things *cough*avenge his father*cough* by Apollo, and then is harassed by the Furies until Athena steps in and acts as a judge for what appears to be the first murder trial.
I just find it hilarious that Rick introduces the idea that the gods don’t directly interfere with mortal affairs and can’t fight mortals unless challenged, and calls them ancient laws. I feel like the laws of the PJO universe were probably introduced somewhere in the dark age (basically after Troy) and it’s a total joke that they are “ancient”.
