It was a trend that was revived during the time the previous generation (Lan Qiren, Wei Changze, Jiang Fengmian, etc. etc. etc.) were giving birth and having children, and perhaps it ended just around the time right after Jin Ling, Lan Sizhui, and Lan Jingyi were born?? Or. No. Actually, their parents (canonically actually, except Jingyi, ‘cause we don’t know his parents lol. But like. Still. They’re Lans, haha.) were either traditional, thought it was a cute tradition, or there was family pressure to do so, because, again, TRADITION. And we don’t know the previous generation’s birth name, so we can just pretend that their courtesy name is their birth name or smth, amirite?? Either way, that’s my explanation and my little niche modern MDZS headcanon I just made up lol. Have fun with this one folks, haha!!
