A week ago was the 2022 AFI Fest at the TCL Chinese Theatre. I shot 4 premieres. I started off with The Son staring Laura Dern and Vanessa Kirby. That evening I had the exceptional opportunity to cover Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio with Christoph Waltz and Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard. Sunday came Living with Noble Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro and Bill Nighy. Then that evening came AFI Feat’s closing night’s premiere of Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans with Judd Hirsch, Michelle Williams, Paul Dano and Seth Rogen. The carpets for the most part well well ran but mayhem broke out on The Fabelmans’ carpet where people clumped near where I was shooting. There was difficulty shooting Seth and Steven because there were too many people near my station. On the whole AFI Fest was really a great experience. Seeing and shooting Guillermo was personally exciting knowing his genius for movie making. To see him with the Pinocchio model used in the animation for the movie was spectacular. It was a once in a lifetime experience. I was full on fanboy for the whole shoot.
