there's something brilliant abt the idea of makoto being the true mastermind of the killing game just bc of how his words and encouragement lead to several deaths, especially hina's.

bc it shows a specific dissonance between makoto and the rest of the characters in the fic (specially kyoko and junko). they can't fathom the idea of makoto having his full memories and still being hopeful and having faith. the tragedy DESTROYED the world. the kirigiri family is dead, the togami's are all dead. its the fucking apocalypse! and yet makoto still has hope. is it naivety? is it stupidity? no. bc kyoko knows makoto isnt stupid.

they cant fucking fathom the idea of still holding onto hope, onto the idea that everything will be okay. that their only choice, the only way they can rationalize makoto naegi and his thoughts is to think that he must be the true mastermind and that his hope is a sham. its the only way his unrelenting hope can be real. if it never was.
