He’d been thinking about them since the night of the fire, how could he not have? He’d seen Bunny at the party he’d thrown, more beautiful than he could bear to witness in her fairy tale dress and with flowers in her hair, and he’d seen Adonis as well ... donning the clothing of a prince but looking for the world like anything but. He hadn’t managed to approach either one of them but he knew that Baby had had a run-in of her own with the older brother she’d never met until then, and ... somewhere, deep down in his cold, frigid heart, Raphael had felt something like guilt. In a spur of the moment decision, he had been the one to invite Bunny and Adonis to his estate, and yet it had been nearly two months since their arrival and he’d yet to so much as say hello to them. Sure, he’d provided them with a beautiful penthouse suite, second only to the likes of the one that he shared with Tatiana and Baby and Sophia Wren’s lavish quarters, but every time he’d thought of inviting them out to dinner or for a tour of the gardens, he’d found ... a thousand different reasons to claim that it wasn’t possible. He was busy, he had too much on his plate as it was ... all of this was true, of course, but he couldn’t just avoid them forever.
And what if he had lost them in the fire? What if they’d perished without him ever getting to properly know either one of them? Adonis he knew, yes, had grown up protecting and watching over him until that one awful day, but he had no idea how his younger brother was doing now, and ... if the seemingly endless receipts for alcohol being billed to the Deerling suite on a regular basis were anything to go by, he couldn’t have been doing all that well at all. Raphael was hardly a soft man, or an honorable one, but family had always been the most important thing in the world to him (right up there with global domination, of course) and he owed it to more than just Luca, Baby, Tatiana, and Camille to do his part as the patriarch of the Doefoot/Deerling clan.
Had the fire changed him? Was he turning over a new leaf? He couldn’t say for certain but it had brought him to where he was now, riding up through the elevator that would bring him directly to the penthouse he’d given to Bunny, Adonis, and Bunny’s bodyguard ... one Carter Blackthorn, quite a nice fellow, but a little too smart for Raphael’s liking. He’d brought ... gifts, too. Family photos, or what little of them that he had, and a few keepsakes that he’d been holding onto for Bunny that had once belonged to their mother, Faun Doefoot. For Adonis, he brought with him a stern speech about alcoholism and a list of treatment programs he’d had Camille do some research on. Straightening his blazer, and trying his best to calm his damn racing heart, he allowed the elevator to take him all the way up ... bringing him directly into the penthouse itself.
“Afternoon,” he said as he cleared his throat, setting down the things he’d brought with him and crossing, and then uncrossing, his arms, looking around with an impatient tap of his foot for any sign of his two younger siblings. Jesus fuck, why hadn’t he brought Baby along with him? Or Tatiana, even, wasn’t she close to Bunny’s age? He’d just have to worry about Adonis fucking her then, because according to the people he’d been having keep an eye on his baby brother, he’d been doing a great deal of mingling with the onsite submissives. “Is---ah, is anyone around?”
